Evans started testing with 2022 Toyota Yaris Rally1 hybrid car

Toyota still didn't revealed their 2022 line-up but one thing is for sure - they wouldn't give their new hybrid evo rally car to the driver who's not in their future plans. There is a big chance that their secrets of developing a car would be known to other teams if they leave that testing driver out of the contract. And team like Toyota just can't put themselves into this position.

They are investing lots of money into their World Rally Championship program and when I hear about the sums of their budget, you just can't believe it. But that's it when some of the big companies want to be a winner and I like that kind of approach.

So Elfyn Evans is almost 100% sure of getting Toyota seat for the next season or two after having a test of the new evolution hybrid Rally1 car.

Their main test driver is Juho Hanninen but it is only four and half months until Monte Carlo Rallye with new cars so it is a perfect time to give the official drivers who will be at the start of that rally the chance to try and practice with the car.

And Evan's first test was on the tarmac surface. I don't know where is the hybrid unit and the battery in the car but car has some strange aero on the both sides of the car. It looks like it needs more of the cooling with those holes.

I think that they are experimenting in this phase with the various aero developments but they are pretty much restricted on this department because FIA wants to cut the costs for privateers and that's why they don't want too much of the aero on the car.

I am very curious about Evans's impressions of the car after the test but they will now test probably every or every other week. We will have the chance to hear form their top driver about what he thinks that can be improved on the car.

Don't forget that this is the last full season for Seb Ogier who will have very limited program for 2022.
