THE NEED FOR DEVELOPMENT OF SPORTS

Sport is a global event in which nations of the world devote resources and time to make happen in developing economy and has served as a cause of unity among nations of the world.

Football(soccer) which is well played around the world, countries indulge in this sport as well as clubs. Played among men and women and different ages, the game of soccer is a game of passion and a source of revenue for different countries. Moreso, football is way of indulging the vast youth if well invested on could be a source of livelihood. My country Nigeria is lagging behind in terms of sports development and as such opportunities is as scarce as gold. Many football talents roaming the streets of Nigeria having no support from the government have had their dream shattered because no where to showcase their talents. Fewer football academies and lower patronage by foreign clubs had made youths who could have made a good name for themselves and families have resulted into doing something they never thought even lower than their expectations. Many prominent Nigerian players of today rose to stardom by themselves or with the support of their families. The likes of Mikel obi, kelechi iheanacho, odion ighalo and co could testify that they got credit for their talent only when the stepped outside the shores of Nigeria.

The low patronage of the Nigerian football league and low turnout at stadiums have left the large number of youths dream of getting an opportunity diminished only if they could relocate overseas.

Coming out today to a football field close to my house, seeing kids recruited by private football academies and coached by a white man displaying their football skills gave me joy. Looking at my right seeing some street kids on the stands watching their pairs hoping they could get an opportunity like this left me devastated and wondered why if developed countries like the Uk will spend so much time in developing their talents then why can’t Nigeria who harbour so much football talents can’t do more. Well Nigeria a country I know with so much politicking have no regard for their youths and as much have no business developing their various talents it has. I hope one day we have a good leadership that can see the good in this youths and help them grow into becoming responsible citizens they can be proud of.
