Resort Architecture

Back to the past and my childhood...
When I was a student, my parents never allowed me to go to a summer camp at sea with my classmates. I still don't know if they had really fears for me, or just liked to impose restrictions.
Anyway, the memory, the image of a typical holiday building, a hotel or a summer youth camp on the coast, is remembered in my mind from that time. I don't know if I saw it somewhere on a postcard, or I just remember it from the days I was with my parents there.
But it looked like that:

And I have memorized this special stepped structure especially well:

Whether my childhood memories of the architecture of the Black Sea coast are correct, I cannot say for sure. But I can say that I was genuinely surprised to see such a building so far from the sea.

The place where it is located is again a resort. But mineral water and spa resort, which is located at least 250 km. from the sea.

I still didn't know if this hotel was functioning from the two times I came here to the pool. Because the pool with hot mineral water works and its entrance looks as if the hotel itself works, and specious photos of luxury rooms are posted on its profile on a famous social network.

but construction work is taking place on the side of it,

while you also can see the condition of the plaster on the facade.

My boyfriend even drew my attention to and showed me how on the other side of the hotel - on the side of the pool, swallows take off the plaster and fly away with it, probably to build nests with it. Lol, can you imagine that! 😄😅 I saw it with my own eyes too!

And speaking of construction and decay, I will insert here something that has nothing to do with the post, but again it is very funny. At least for me, after living in this country.

I did not understand why this advertisement was placed in the hotel yard. Because it is an ad of a manufacturer of PVC profiles for windows and doors.

And in a typical Bulgarian way, PVC profiles are advertised with the image of a lying woman (in this case, accidentally dressed), who says - the inscription above means: "This satisfies me." (of course, with a sexual context).
This advertisement, as I said, could not surprise anyone in this country, where everything - from boilers and irrigation systems to mufflers and motor oils is advertised alongside the image of a naked or half-naked woman.

It can't surprise anyone but me...

But let's go back to the hotel building in this resort, this unfulfilled childhood dream of mine.

I could assume that none of the visitors or people living here are surprised by the condition of the building, the condition of the pool, or what is happening around them, by all the luxury Mercedes with Turkish license plates around, by all the expensive villas built around and at the same time, the poverty and filth on the streets. But that's another topic.

However, the design of the building is important in this case. A design I remember from my childhood. And that continues to live and perform to this day.

Have you seen similar buildings in your countries?

I guess the answer will be yes for the former communist ones ...🙂

Hello @soulsdetour, we have similar-looking structures and facades with stepped terraces but there are still variations in terms of the overall look and feel. The billboard advertisement for PVC is rather unusual. In our country there's always a celebrity involved endorsing products in an advertisement from food to construction materials.

In Bulgaria, anyone can become a celebrity after visiting a plastic surgeon. 😄 Then the life of this person suddenly improves, he or in most cases, she starts advertising things and becomes famous. That is, the process is a bit reversed 🙃
I can assume that the buildings of this type in your country are old. Somehow, I associate this architecture with a style that was fashionable decades ago.

Wow, it's a very 'clean' and sleek facade isn't it. Very 60's or 70's...it reminds me of something but I can't quite place it.

Interesting and quite unique too.

That's absolutely spot on! Old architecture. I can't specify the exact decade and whether it's from the 60's, 70's or 80's, but in any case one thing is true - it's old architecture. And I like the facade, too. Despite its condition and despite everything.
Thank you!

It would have been a pretty grand place in it's heyday too I would imagine.

I share your opinion. And I even like the design. Although everywhere there is a breath of old age and some bygone times, and regimes that are not at all pleasant for the country.
