A Swallowed Pride

Amaku lived for about five hundred years, and she is still alive.
"Will she ever die?"
That was the question people normally ask because she lives too long.

Amaku had children who died hundreds of years ago because, I guess, they were tired of living. She was known for her magical powers; she would heal any kind of sickness and deliver anyone going through spiritual attacks. I mean, she was like the goddess of the land. Oracles came and went, but Amaku did not die.
People started wondering why it was so, and they wanted to know what she had that would make her live for about five hundred years, not having children again because they all died at their old age.

The king wondered why this would be because Amaku lived even before his great-grandfather died.
The king got jealous of Amaku because everyone in the kingdom preferred her to him because of the powers she possessed.
The king would sometimes send some spies to her domain to spy on whatever she was doing.
Sometimes those spies would go to Amaku's domain and become friendly with her because of how she would treat them.
"I know you people are spies from the king."
She would say,
"How do you know this is the great Amaku?"
the spices would ask in shock.
"I see and hear everything."

At some points, the spies start spying on the king for her, but she tells them not to because she sees and hears everything, and they do not have the right to betray the king's trust in them.
"The king hates you and told us to spy on you."
The spies said it with surprise in their eyes.
"Don't worry, the king and I will someday become friends."
They would ask her how, but she would say someday.

The king had wives who bore him so many children. He loved all his children, but he had a particular child he loved the most.
His favorite son suffered attacks from his dream, and whenever he had the attack at night, the whole village would not be at peace as the boy would be roaring very loudly like a lion.
During his attack, the boy will also vomit a greenish substance.
King Quado never wanted to lose his favorite child, as that was the child of his old age.
So he used to seek a solution; he used to go to other kingdoms and other countries for the solution to his favorite child's health.

Some of the people he usually goes to seek help from would tell him that
"Your solution lies within you."
And he wondered who that might be.
"It can never be Amaku."
He usually says that because of his pride and hatred for Amaku.
The king never wanted anything with Amaku because of how jealous he was of her.
His wives would always tell him that he should swallow his pride and go to Amaku for help.
King Quado would threaten his wives, saying
"If anyone should speak about that wicked woman again,"
His wives would not just say it again.

It was the healing festival, and during this time, everyone in the kingdom usually brought anyone who suffered any kind of illness to the king's domain for help, and the king would employ some medical doctors for treatment since he was endowed with financial riches.
King Quado was a rich king; he would do this once a year to show how he loved his people and hoped that the gods of the land would heal his son because of his kindheartedness.

So that day, people brought everyone from their household who was suffering from illness or something else.
The medical doctors came with their apparatus for the festival, well-paid by the king to treat people.
As they were still there, a boy who had epilepsy had an attack and was rushed to the medical doctors.
The medical doctors could not do anything to stop the attack, so one of the elders sent for Amaku.
When Amaku came, she just robbed some herbs from her hands and gave them to the boy to inhale, and then the attack ceased.

The king got so angry when he saw Amaku, but then again, the elders of the land calmed him down.
As the festival was still going on, a girl was brought from another kingdom, and her mother said that she had been unconscious for three weeks now.
Amaku mixed some herbs and inhaled them; within thirty seconds, the girl came back.
At this point, everyone turned their attention from the medical doctors to the great Amaku.
After some time, the king had no choice but to swallow his pride. He went very close to Amaku and told her that she should heal his son.

Amaku gave him a dreamcatcher and told him to put it under his son's bed for three nights.
The king tried it, and it worked for him.
So he invited Amaku for a bouquet in his domain, and from that time on, they became friends.
