Originally from the tropical forests of Africa, it is a perennial plant that grows from a bulb and the truth is that its flowering is exceptional, it has the particularity that it blooms first and then the leaves come out. Its flower comes out of the only stem that produces a bulb and is a spectacular sphere formed by many small flowers grouped almost perfectly with a very striking orange color, this flower remains approximately two weeks.

After the flower is withering, they begin to appear of a very showy green color and the form of spiral, when these dry the cycle begins again. Unfortunately I don't have photos of the complete flowering process, I was on a trip before it flowered and I left while it was still in bloom.

This amazing plant is xerophytic so we pay a lot of attention to its soil. We water it twice a week (when it is summer time) the rest of the year, because of the humidity we only water it when we see the soil is very dry. We have it in a semi-shaded area in the garden, where it is protected from the sun by other taller plants in the hours of strongest sun, however the rest of the day it has good exposure to light.

We have multiplied it on several occasions by cutting the bulb (although not in all cases with success). We place several semi-buried in one place, we do it during the summer period in my country.

It grows about 60 cm in height and in diameter they reach about 35 cm we keep it with loose soil and organic fertilizer, the truth like all the plants in our garden, we do not give it an extremely special care. (I think we are very lucky)

Something I discovered about this plant reading some articles was that it was venomous! And some tribes in Africa poisoned their arrows with it for fishing, since then we have taken special care, especially with pets and children (who are always snooping in the garden) this makes me think a lot about all the exotic species we have come to add to our garden and to take action.

Without a doubt this is one of the most atypical and surprising species that adorn our garden and I am happy to show it to you nature lovers.💗
