Chaguarama de Loero and Caracolito, beaches not so visited / My route through the Paria Peninsula, Venezuela - IV Part [ENG-ESP]

Continuing my journey through this part of Sucre state, the Paria peninsula, I wanted to visit some not so popular places and had found on the Internet a beach that they described as a wild beauty: Chaguarama de Loero. We went on a Sunday morning from the town of Rio Caribe, where we were staying. I asked in a bakery where to take the bus to this beach and they told me that we had to take the one that passed by the road to Playa Medina and tell the driver to drop us off at the entrance of the hamlet that leads to Chaguarama de Loero, that is, there was no direct public transportation.

Continuando mi viaje por esta parte del estado Sucre, la península de Paria, quería visitar algunos lugares no tan populares y había encontrado por Internet una playa que describían como una belleza salvaje: Chaguarama de Loero. Fuimos un domingo en la mañana desde el pueblo de Río Caribe, donde nos estábamos hospedando. Pregunté en una panadería dónde se tomaba el autobús hacia esta playa y me dijeron que teníamos que tomar el que pasaba por la vía hacia Playa Medina y decirle al conductor que nos dejara en la entrada del caserío que conduce a Chaguarama de Loero, es decir, no había transporte público directo.

My mother thought the way to get there seemed somewhat ambiguous but she trusted my enthusiasm and we left. It is about 12 km from Río Caribe, we got off at the entrance of the village and I thought that the beach wouldn't be very far and that we could get there walking in a short time, but we asked some people from the place and they told us that it could take about an hour, that it was better to wait if a bus passed that sometimes made the route, although on Sundays it was less frequent.

A mi mamá le pareció algo ambigua la manera de llegar pero confió en mi entusiasmo y nos fuimos. Son unos 12 km desde Río Caribe, nos bajamos en la entrada del caserío y yo pensé que la playa no estaría muy lejos y que podríamos llegar caminando en poco tiempo, pero preguntamos a unas personas del lugar y nos dijeron que podríamos tardar como una hora, que era mejor esperar si pasaba un autobús que a veces hacía la ruta aunque los domingos era menos frecuente.

As we didn't want to wait there, we decided that it was better to move forward and that if the bus passed we would get on in the road. The path is very beautiful, there are houses on both sides among the lush vegetation, flowers and the singing of the birds. Some people greeted us as we passed and others saw us strange, as if to say: how strange, tourists on foot here.

Como no nos queríamos quedar ahí esperando decidimos que era mejor ir avanzando y que si pasaba el autobús nos montábamos en la vía. El camino es muy bonito, hay casas de lado y lado entre la frondosa vegetación, flores y cantar de los pájaros. Algunas personas nos saludaban al pasar y otras nos veían raro, como diciendo: qué raro, turistas a pie por aquí.

When we had more than half an hour walking and my mother didn't want to continue, the expected bus passed and we got on. It left us where the paved road ends and to get to the beach there were only 200 meters to go along a dirt road. We asked the driver if he would come back and he told us that around one in the afternoon, so we had to be careful not to miss the return bus.

Cuando teníamos más de media hora caminando y mi mamá ya no quería seguir, pasó el esperado autobús y nos montamos. Nos dejó donde termina la vía asfaltada y para llegar a la playa sólo faltaban unos 200 metros por un camino de tierra. Le preguntamos al conductor si volvería a pasar y nos dijo que alrededor de la una de la tarde, así que debíamos estar atentas para no perder el autobús de regreso.

We walked towards the beach and little by little the sea appeared, Chaguarama de Loero is a beach that is not very extensive and little visited, it didn't have any service that day we went, perhaps in high season there are food sales and other things, but that day it was totally lonely.

Caminamos hacia la playa y poco a poco apareció el mar, Chaguarama de Loero es una playa no muy extensa y poco visitada, no tenía ningún servicio ese día que fuimos, quizás en temporada alta hay ventas de comida y otras cosas, pero ese día estaba totalmente solitaria.

My mother didn't like this panorama, the fact that there was no one on the beach, I wanted to stay for a while and bathe but she was reluctant, so well, in order not to fall into conflict I only walked for a while along the shore and did a couple of photos. It's true that the landscape is wild but beautiful, between coconut trees and mountains, and the sea was somewhat rough that day.

A mi mamá no le gustó este panorama, el hecho de que no hubiera nadie en la playa, yo quería quedarme un rato y bañarme pero ella estaba reacia, así que bueno, para no caer en conflicto solamente caminé un rato por la orilla e hice un par de fotos. Es verdad que el paisaje es salvaje pero hermoso, entre cocoteros y montañas, además el mar estaba algo agitado ese día.

When we were heading back to town, something moved in the undergrowth and my mom ran scared thinking it was a snake hahaha, I don't think so, surely it was a lizard. We sat in front of some houses to wait for the bus and I saw that one of them sold ice cream, so I didn't miss the opportunity to refresh myself. The bus arrived earlier, at 12:00 noon, we were lucky to be there, not having stayed long on the beach.

Cuando estábamos regresando hacia el pueblo, algo se movió entre la maleza y mi mamá corrió asustada pensando que era una serpiente jajaja, no creo, seguro era alguna lagartija. Nos sentamos frente a unas casas a esperar el autobús y vi que en una de ellas vendían helados, así que no perdí la oportunidad de refrescarme. El autobús llegó más temprano, a las 12:00 del mediodía, tuvimos suerte de estar ahí.

What I later read about Chaguarama beach is that it is called "de Loero" because in the nineteenth century the place was part of a farm that belonged to the brothers Juan Vicente and Domicio Loero, so that name remained.

Lo que leí luego sobre la playa Chaguarama es que se llama “de Loero” porque en el siglo XIX el lugar era parte de una hacienda que perteneció a los hermanos Juan Vicente y Domicio Loero, entonces le quedó ese nombre.

For the next day of our trip through the Paria peninsula, we went to another beach that isn't very promoted here to tourists, it is Caracolito, which is much closer to Río Caribe, about 10-15 minutes away. At 9:00 in the morning we took a taxi, because no bus was passing by, and we agreed with the man to come pick us up at 4:00 in the afternoon.

Para el día siguiente de nuestro viaje por la península de Paria fuimos a otra playa que tampoco es muy promocionada por aquí a los turistas, se trata de Caracolito, la cual queda mucho más cerca de Río Caribe, como a 10-15 minutos. A las 9:00 de la mañana tomamos un taxi, porque ningún autobús pasaba por ahí, y acordamos con el señor que nos viniera a buscar a las 4:00 de la tarde.

The beach is small and has several wooden structures and thatched roof to sit in the shade. There were no other people there, just the occasional fisherman and inhabitant of the houses nearby.

La playa es pequeña y tiene varias estructuras de madera y techo de palma para sentarse a la sombra. No había más gente allí, sólo algún que otro pescador y habitante de las casas que hay cerca.

I didn't wait long to get in the water, taking advantage of the fact that the day was very sunny and hot. Anyway the water temperature was a bit cold but I soon got used to it. This beach is not very deep and as the waves were soft, I swam inwards for several meters, while my mother entered a little closer to the shore.

Yo no esperé mucho para meterme al agua, aprovechando que el día estaba muy soleado y hacía calor. De todos modos la temperatura del agua estaba algo fría pero pronto me acostumbré. Esta playa no es muy honda y como el oleaje estaba suave, nadé varios metros hacia adentro, mientras mi mamá se metió un poco cerca de la orilla.

At one end there are some very attractive rock formations that you can walk through and dive into the water beyond this beach.

En un extremo hay unas formaciones rocosas muy atractivas por las que puedes caminar y sumergirte al agua más allá de esta playa.

At noon we sat in the shade to eat what we had brought and to relax a bit.

Al mediodía nos sentamos en la sombra a comer lo que habíamos llevado y a relajarnos un poco.

Now the water temperature was warmer so I went in and out several times. I also found a fun hobby making towers out of some rocks and snail shells that were lying around until it was time to leave.

Ahora la temperatura del agua estaba más cálida por lo que entré y salí varias veces. También encontré un divertido pasatiempo haciendo torres con unas piedras y conchas de caracoles que estaban por ahí hasta que llegó la hora de partir.
