This is what made me decide to buy the homestead.

I was looking for property close to a large lake that I could buy outright. When I found this dirt, there was one thing added that drew me in!

The entire property is in the shade:

This is the view to the east, over the trailer I'm working on.

Here's South:

Over the outbuilding, towards the lake.

To the West:

Over my car on the driveway.

North is shady too:

The homestead is 80% shaded, so I will need to do some cutting, to have enough sun for a garden.

The biggest gain is the thermally induced breezes coming from the lake, and moving uphill. The local temperature is about 10 degrees cooler than the area normal, arriving directly from the lake surface!

It will be a great place to live, hopefully soon!

I covet your trees!! 😂😁
What species are they? They have the look of Elm or Green Ash to me but it is tough to tell in a picture. The one tree looks like it has some dead wood that should be removed. How are you situated for Dutch Elm and the emerald ash borer?

If they suit your region, you may want to consider planting a few mountain ash/rowan trees that will eventually replace these. They do not seem to have any disease/predators --yet-- at least not in my neck of the woods.

I do covet them, and most are white oak. The one with damage is about 5 feet in Diameter, and will get some love soon.

There are some black walnut trees about 20 inch diameter there. One is sick, and may have to come down, but I hope not!

I lost one oak (30" diameter) and had to cut it down, not good; but I'll salvage it for lumber.

Elm doesn't do good here, but the disease has likely run it's course. I will be planting a lot (300) of red elm; for slippery elm powder, on the public land by the homestead.

👍💗🤠🙏💸🌊
