Concealed carry mistakes with everyday carry gear!

Small rant...some will understand before I begin, some will never get this; but a few will benefit from this information!

First, a concealed weapon will just get you hurt, if you don't regularly shoot; the machine you are betting your life upon! I'm not talking one or two magazines, to develop the muscle memory that can save your life in a bad situation; you need to shoot hundreds of rounds.

It is best to use random shorted magazines, and I put in at least one dud round in every practice session. Running and gunning is closer to real life, and there is a special range dedicated to this at the club.

This is all pretty standard, so here is my rant:

Here is my EDC (every day carry) after on such session! Normal procedure is to bring all the firearms home for a thorough cleaning...NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!!

That means that you put This in your holster:

And this:
IMG_20220405_175256576.jpg
CLEAN and Oil this precision machine, and refill the magazines! That way, you aren't relying on a compromised firearm, with empty magazines for safety.

So make it right, before you leave the range! I still do the rest of them at home, but this guy get special treatment before I leave...just in case!

Personally after I clean and oil... I generally it'll do that at the range with a quick Field strip. And then I'll turn around and shoot a couple of rounds.

I had a friend of mine pretty much refused to clean his Glock ever. Mind you this individual shot at least a thousand rounds a week through his gun. Yeah absolutely refuse to detail clean. If I stuck my finger into the action and rubbed it around it would come out black.

However this individual spent 20 years in war. Every time he is had a weapons malfunction, he actually is blamed it on recent maintenance. No kidding.

This individual absolutely will detail strip his rifle. However he takes a wet brush and knocks off some crud blows everything down and sprays it all down with oil then flicks the gun a couple of times dries It off... And back into the holster it goes.

Weekly practice won't really help you out. Daily practice and regular work as well as Carry is the only thing that will matter.

That and practice your draw. Personally I think draw practice is more important for me at this moment because of the historical sheer amount of projectiles I've pulled the trigger and sent towards targets. Or send down range for snacks... Mmmm

Next up especially with precision rifles do not remove the copper... Only clean for carbon removal. Well that definitely shifted my entire perspective. Copper in the lands of your rifling acts as lubrication and fills in any inconsistencies with rifling. Actually after you've recoppered the barrel you will notice that your groups will noticeably shrink.

Really enjoy your post. Continue posting more pew pew pew content.

Love your four legged spotter! I'm sure he improves your hit percentage, ROFLOL!

Agreed on the clean and shoot, I'm never quite ready to leave anyway. It takes a little time to add one in the chamber, since this one is designed to carry a chambered round safely. Then the magazine needs to be topped back off. My rant was to return it to a reliable state before leaving.

Your friend surprises me, military trained should know better! A clean weapon is lifeblood, but some people are stubborn.

I don't own a Glock, although I have used several. My Son's duty pistol is a Glock, and it's fine, but it just doesn't song to me on the range. Nice but not special, and I might get one some day if the price is right.

The only times my daily carry have left the holster were times where the problem was serious, and imminent. Twice in two decades, and once it was out, but still in my pocket. The other time was more extreme, and was fully out; but concealed by my hand, and I was able to talk him down safely! It agree that drawing is to be practiced, and I do; but situational awareness has allowed a hidden slow draw both times. For highest speed, I practice drawing it still in the holster, and shooting the holster off of the gun. I have trimmed the holster to allow proper ejection, and the bullet and muzzle flash will remove what's left of the holster. I intend to build myself a holster that will eject the gun into the web of my hand when triggered.

Removing copper is like boiling water in a cast iron pan, ruins the seasoning; and requires a lot of work to get the sizing (copper) working properly! Clean the fouling, but leave the seasoning alone....

Dry firing is Slow with an automatic pistol, since it must be cocked each time to fire it, but I do some of it anyway.

Thanks for reading and responding. 🔖

Automatic holsters pretty cool idea.

When I was working on learning gold mining I spent some time with the cowboy fast draw people and they showed me what they did I just couldn't keep up.

However the next season I show up and I had my 1911.

The grand champion kid wanted to test me. 21-in Target at 21 ft. First person to score a hit wins. The kid was faster than me. However he missed really wide I can't remember it was left or right not a vertical Miss.

Meanwhile I had just smoothly worked my draw not pushing ultra hard just maintaining proper fundamentals... While he was missing my shot punched the center out of their target. Nobody ever really got to the center of that Target. I do remember it made a perfect splash of lead on the exact center.

After that nobody wanted to bully me for the fact that they thought they could shoot.

After that shot. We were all done competing. LoL I never had a issue until the last night when I decided it was best to just pack up and head on out.

That second season was pretty rough.

Oh well learning lessons are exactly that.

No I just need to track down one of those single stage reloaders. And the extra little tools that I'm going to need for my reloading 458 socom project.

True that, a fast miss will just get you killed!

I 💕 love 💗💙 my 1911! Just a little big to daily carry, LOL 🤕😆😁 but it will cut paper out to 200 yards. Pure Nasty 🤢 up close, and terribly reliable! I have a 15 round magazine that makes it even more serious....

I bought a full Lee reloading kit with a matching book. Then you only need buy the dies for whatever you want to reload. Very good starter kit!

The fastest draw I've ever seen was a sweet thing, with a mouse gun in a holster attached to her center bra strap. She drew and placed a round on target in 1.4 seconds! Don't want to piss her off for sure.... ☺️💥😆

Now, pet that spoiled dog!

🐕‍🦺🐾🐕‍🦺🐾👍💗🤠

I'm not sure how far out the ballistics with a 1911 will reach...

I hit a 12-in square or so little old TV at 100 yards once. One day I was out shooting with my Marine corps brother and he got upset. Here I am shooting rounds across the canyon at the embankment on the other side of the canyon. He totally thought I was just randomly blasting.

About 300 yards off and I had asked him exactly how far is that one rock over there just above where my rounds were impacting. It was pretty big rock. My brother laughed and said there's no way you can hit that it's dang near exact 300 yards out.

Now I have to say this Marine corps veteran has an extremely specific set of skills and one of them happens to know exactly by eyeball within about 5 yards exactly what any range is visually. Even with binoculars. It's pretty crazy skill.

I have cut paper at 200 yards with a 45, but practical range is shorter. You can extend that range some by putting the round in something with a longer barrel, like a Thompson. 🎯🎯🎯

But it isn't a long range round, even though the 45 ACP is the best battle pistol ever (in my humble opinion)! 😆👍💗

I know people won't like my opinion, but I don't care, LOL.

☺️👍😆🎯🤠💗

Dry fire for people will help you with your muscle memory. That gives you the daily practice.

Dry fire on a semi-automatic pistol forces me to cock the slide before every practice shot. But you're right, dry fire is critical!

I have located a BB pistol that's similar in size to my EDC! Not quite dry fire, but it does allow daily practice. 🎯🎯🎯

Thanks for coming by!

sometimes after the range I wrap my gun in a paper towel or something so I don't get the holster all funky. Other times I bring a gun I don't even shoot. I try to make sure to have enough bullets so I can go home with a loaded magazine.

(Edited)

Always a good idea, no sense taking extra risks! When I leave, my daily carry is in pocket ready condition with all magazines topped off.

the first step to safely cleaning a gun is to load another gun.
