Wednesday Walk - Springtime Critters
All the critters are out for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay
Spring has brought out the turtles in force. The lake by my house has floating islands on it that are perfect for basking. These are all pretty large red eared sliders, who knows how old they might be.
The floating islands are pretty much packed with these turtles all around the edges. If I had walked here earlier I bet there would be even more turtles hanging out one every available square inch of space.
Here's a baby. At first glance I thought it was a painted turtle because of its smaller size and yellow markings but now that I processed the photo I can see its red ear. Maybe this is around a two or three year old red eared slider. I'm sure there will be some extra tiny half dollar sized ones basking in the morning next time I go walking by the lake.
The floating islands are also good for goose and duck nests. This female mallard is scoping out territory already.
Even her boyfriend is starting to stake this place out for nesting territory.
I walked around for a better view of the nest situation and caught her shaking water off.
I didn't see any eggs yet. She will probably start laying them within a week or so, then there will be a bunch of baby yellow puffs emerging by the end of the month.
A couple hawks are nesting nearby too. I'm sure they'll end up scooping up a few of the ducklings and goslings to feed their chicks. Maybe I can capture some of the gory action if I observe the ducklings enough lol.
Meanwhile out on the lake the Canadian Geese are splashing around making lots of noise. I think they are trying to shake off some of their winter feathers as its finally getting warm around here.
Can you spot the pie billed grebe here? I noticed it swimming around the lake but wasn't able to get a clear shot. Then after processing this photo I noticed it hidden around the geese. They are tough to get a clear shot because they are always diving under for a long time then they emerge halfway across the lake in a different spot.
That's all for now, hopefully I can find more critters on my next walk and get that grebe with a fish in its mouth. Thanks for looking :-)

Haloo @tahirmuneer, Read the guidelines written by @ocd #posh, you can't share what they've curated it, it's not allowed, and I've seen you do that quite often, not just in my posts
Hey, I'm new here, can you please share those guidelines here ? I will be more than happy to read them and act accordingly.
Ducks are the same as at my house. But turtles don't live here.
Who is sitting on the tree? A turtle? I was joking.
The hawk on the tree wasn't cooperating this time. I tried getting closer and it flew away. I bet it is way too cold over there for any sort of reptile to live, unless some kind of salamander can survive being frozen solid in winter lol.
Wow, nunca habia visto una tortuga tan grande, que maravilloso que tengas esto en dónde vives, está muy genial. Saludos.
Gracias por mirar :-)

Oh I haven't seen turtles that many. I have seen before only one when someone made it as a pet.
The water turtles are plentiful around here. The pet stores sometimes sell them here too but its way easier to just catch a wild one if you want a pet.
Oh people who love to pet it could have as many as they can if they want. They can just go there and have some.
The wild ones can be trained to take food if you bring fish for them.
The place, where I lived in the recent past is similar. A few years ago I had a friend, who had a pond in his garden near the shore of the Tisza river in Szolnok, Hungary. There were turtles and other animals in/around the pond. I have not met him since I moved out of the city to live in a village.
Healthy turtle population on the lake, not something we see very often. Grebe between the geese must have popped up for a quick breather, nice capture!
Mallard male duck has superb coloured feathers, female blend in so well among the reeds.

I need to visit the river nearby where there are even more turtles. They cover all islands, mostly just red eared sliders and painted turtles.
Seeing them in nature sure is a treat! With warmer days approaching a walk along the river sounds good!
So nice 🐢
We have all sorts of them here, including some huge snapping turtles.
I have not seen turtles near my place, and this area which is your home for many years amazed me my dear friend. How I love your excellent photography as well and I commend your for that. I genuinely appreciate it and indeed you are incredible. Keep sharing beautiful moments in life. Have a great Wednesday walk!
We have plenty of water turtles around here and even some land box turtles but those are more rare to find. Hopefully the tiny little baby turtles will be out soon, they are barely larger than a coin.
Wow! That sounds amazing. I have not seen new born turtles yet, however, when I am going to parks, turtles are often there for display. But you know, I love your place for being so tranquil and breathtaking. I wish to visit a site like this someday.
My favorite are baby snapping turtles, they look like mini dinosaurs.
Springtime critters are definitely out. It will be nice to see the springtime babies. I ready to shake off my winter feathers.
We usually get ducks nesting on the condo balcony and a few always end up getting trapped on the condo side. Odds are I might get some closeup baby duck photos again this year.
You got some great shots of the wildlife. I have a pair of Mallard ducks visiting my little backyard pond. I know they will not nest here but it is fun to have them come everyday.
Maybe they'll bring the ducklings around to the pond eventually.
