Wednesday Walk - Prairie Sightings
Here are some prairie sightings for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay

The prolonged spring around here has treated the flowers quite well. They are lasting longer than usual and the bees and loving it.

Loads of these black raspberries are growing all over the place right now. Mulberries too then eventually we'll get some wild plums. When you pick a black raspberry it doesn't bring the stem with it like a blackberry often does.

My daughter had fun catching these docile dogbane beetles.

There were loads of them all over some dogbane weeds hence their name dogbane beetle lol.

Just a huge vulture in the sky. Probably looking for mangled rabbits on the road.

Now for the prairie flowers. They are all over the place along with ticks. It would be nice to go frolicking through these flowers but in the end you'll be covered in horrible blood sucking ticks.

The prairie is super green too. I suspect there might be a couple coyotes laying down somewhere in the grass here along with lots of rabbits and other rodents.

Speaking of rodents here is a dead field mouse. Wonder what killed him, seems to have died of poison or some strange natural cause.

After some heavy rains here I found a drowned rat next to a restaurant in town lol. I'll think twice about going there again...

With the rain there are lots of mushrooms coming out again too. More soon for #fungifriday hopefully it will warm up soon so the chanterelles finally come out. Instead I get mostly these LBMs in great numbers.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

Happy #wednesdaywalk! Nice prairie pics 👍 We have lots of the wild black rasperries and wild blackberries both around here. I found the first ripe raspberry and of course ate it 😉 yesterday. I actually planted some black raspberries in the garden along with some more commercial red raspberries (thornless and much more upright). The black raspberries have a stronger (and better in my opinion) flavor.
We don't have many blackberries here, might have to start sneaking them into the prairies and cause an invasion like in Seattle. Supposedly we have lots of elderberries but there are loads of weird lookalikes that are nasty tasting and toxic. I just stick to mulberries and black raspberries. My daughter likes eating the pre-ripe black raspberries that are super sour.
