Wednesday Walk - Last of 2025

Here is the last day of the year and the first day of the new year for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay

My wife and daughter set up a home-made advent calendar counting down to Christmas with a bit of flour playdough and some beach stones from Lake Michigan. My daughter loved waking up every morning to place a new stone. We lit the candle while she opened presents.

Meanwhile on the train the Metra went all out for Christmas decoration. For some reason they went with a Marvel comics theme though.

The outside of the train looked like this, very bright in the cold gloom of winter around here. In this photo its only like 7am but it looks pitch black outside.

Meanwhile on another car they added a few more Marvel characters besides just Spiderman.

I think I was one of the only few to go downtown to work the last week of 2025. This is the old post office that got converted to offices. Its usually filled with people but here I am with maybe 10 other poor souls looking for lunch in the food court with only one of the restaurants open lol.

Just a strange light display I found on my post apocalyptic lunch walk. Maybe I'll go around here when its darker to see how it really looks.

Here is the sign where Rout 66 mostly ends. Sadly it always gets vandalized by a bunch of weirdos and their stickers.

Panorama really warps the buildings. Nice and abandoned before 2026 arrives. I avoided New Years countdowns downtown. Too much mayhem happens around here.

Now the next morning on January 1st I decided not to break my sleep cycle and woke up as usual early and took a walk. Old school downtown in suburbia with zero cars parked.

All businesses were closed that day except for a Sushi restaurant. But in the cold of winter I find that Sushi is a bit out of place. I suspect this tree will remain decorated for the first month of 2026.

That's all for now, happy 2026 :-)

Happy New Year! we did Chinese food and a movie on Christmas day. I agree cold fish on a cold day doesn't soudn appetizing. Love the Advent calendar. Route 66 is still a big deal especially for summer road trips. I've seen stretches of the old highway in most of the states it goes through... and the end on Santa Monica Pier.

We ended up on route 66 coming back from snake road. Then we took a break at a sort of ghost town playground place and found a lost dog. Thankfully it had a tag with a number on it and we were able to call the owner. My daughter thought it was our dog for a while while we walked it around. I suspect sushi would be called for at the Santa Monica Pier end of Route 66.

Route 66 is crazy. Some very touristy stuff like diners and little museums, some ghost towns, some stretches that are just now a part of another highway. I found some sections in Missouri that were forgotten but you could still see the old gas stations, old cabins to stay in, cool stuff. I like it all.
