Wednesday Walk - Finally Feeling Winter

Finally the subzero temperatures have arrived for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay

My daughter was getting major cabin fever so I had to take her out while we were getting hit by the huge storm that decimated the lower states.

It is kind of nice when it is all snowy out. Everything quiets down and the snow kind of insulates everything for a while making things warmer.

My daughter really loved making footprints. I'll have to make sure to quarantine these boots at the door to not ruin the floor later on.

Now that it has snowed this alleyway looks a bit different, might be a nice charcoal pencil study later on with a creature in the middle.

We scoped out plenty of unstepped on snow areas to make footprints.

Here is a little dollhouse in one of the shop windows. Much too intricate and delicate for my daughter, it is more of a suburbanite 40k model.

Meanwhile on the way to Chicago they had to set the switches on fire to keep them from freezing.

Quite a bit more snow downtown, as you can see it coating the bridges. Probably at least 4 inches, nothing compared to Wisconsin or Vermont but still annoying enough.

1000004006.jpg
I accidentally wore my tennis shoes and ended up almost slipping on this polluted snow.

1000004003.jpg
As usual the bridges are the most treacherous, just don't lift up your feet and slide walk to avoid biffing and tumbling down into the river.

1000004026.jpg
The pigeons are surviving somehow. I suspect they manage to get into the bridge houses somehow to keep warm.
1000004027.jpg
Plus someone always dumps a bunch of feed here too. I'll post a video in feathered friends on these guys for #featheredfriday.

The river is finally freezing over, eventually it might finally freeze over in my part of the city but for now it is just growing from Chinatown.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

I'm amazed by the photos of the snowy streets especially the ones with the view of the big building ( as living in a little town I'm not used to see big buildings) by the way sorry for your daughter hope she will be better soon 💖

My daughter is fine she loves the snow. I grew up in a tiny town too now the big city feels like you are walking in an endless mall.

Gotta love the simple joy of making footprints 🙂 Perhaps thats what spurred the comment but did you hear about the Amtrak that derailed in Vermont due to a frozen switch? The downtown snow photos reminded me of downtown Minneapolis. They have all these connectors between the skyscrapers so you don't have to go outside. You can go for blocks and blocks without having to go outside. I remember getting lost in them and going outside to look at street level and figure out where I was lol maybe that was the genesis of google maps giving directions inside buildings 😂

I didn't hear about that derail, maybe you need more powerful flame throwers in Vermont to fight against the winter? Chicago has a similar thing that connects the buildings in the main area of downtown called the pedway. I wouldn't recommend going down there as it is inhabited by a bunch of pit demons. The interior is also super depressing looking with bathroom tiles everywhere and flickering lighting with various criminals waiting around every corner to rob you. The website makes it look like something to use but reality is much worse better of fighting with the snow above ground. https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/cdot/provdrs/ped/svcs/pedway.html

The photo's original uploader was Hephaestos at English Wikipedia.

Most of Minneapolis is above ground.

Here's a Map

As usual the bridges are the most treacherous, just don't lift up your feet and slide walk to avoid biffing and tumbling down into the river.

On such days, there are many accidents and injured pedestrians on bridges.

I suspect a domino effect would happen during the busiest times. One person slips and everyone in a row tumbles over.
