Wednesday Walk by the Beach

Here is a walk by the beach of Lake Michigan for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay

We finally made it up to the beach this year. Once it gets over 85 degrees the water will finally get warm enough to tolerate lol.

Fortunately this particular beach is rarely over crowded as its all the way up in Zion somewhat close to the border of Wisconsin.

The water up here is nice and clear and you can see all the way to the bottom of the lake until it drops off suddenly. This area can be a bit of trouble with rip currents but today the wind wasn't strong and the waves were minimal.

The real fun is collecting rocks along the shoreline.

There are also quite a few walking trails along side the shoreline where you can find random riff raff like this dead tribble.

These robber flies are fun to have around as they will snipe in mid-air annoying flies trying to pester you.

These red and black beetles were flying around everywhere, I think it might be a wood borer of some sort feasting on pollen.

Lily pads were blooming in the murky side canal next to the lake.

I'm not sure if this one will turn white like the rest of them or if it is a different color of lotus flower.

Look at this somewhat rare sight. A cactus in Illinois? Blooming? The dry sand dunes next to the beach make a perfect environment for these cacti. I doubt any of them survive the winter here as the lake effect makes everything freeze solid, unless they manage to survive somehow. Maybe they just grow new each year.

I heard quite a few birds in the trees but other than seagulls I was only able to get a shot of this juvenile blue bird.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

Wow that is a lot of variety of plants with waterlilies and prickly pear by the lake. Great bokeh on the bird shot too.

I saw a sparrow hawk as well but it ended up as just a silhouette. I wish there were some frogs on the lily pads to make it more picturesque.

Prickly pear in Illinois? You must be having flashbacks to your days in Arizona lol Great shots of the boat and wave breaking on shore. I like the lilies too. Beetles are cute until they start eating your apple trees. We had a little problem with Japanese beetles this week. I should have gotten a photo they are pretty in that beetle way - shiny shell with some nice green color.

I'm surprised the cacti can survive the winter here. Back in az the slightest of frosts would kill the cacti. Those japanese beetles are a menace. The only thing that eats them are bluegills. I would catch handfulls of them and feed the fish, probably didn't even make a dent in their population.

What a great trip to the lake. So beautiful @sketch.and.jam 😁
It’s great to see the cactus… and such a big flower. I can imagine it was strange to see it.
Walking the shore is always great to find things…
And the water heating up enough… hahaha yep. It needs to be nice and warm for me to jump in.

The last capture of the bird is great 😁😎 love the bokeh of the background. It makes the bird pop.
Thanks for sharing 👋🏻😁 have a great day further.

O no… better do that. Be careful as it can be really painful.

Believe it or not. I got sunburned on my first day in Paris last Friday hahaha even though I had factor 50 suncream on. Must have been the change in country/ area.

Fortunately it was only mild because I have melanin from my Mexican half of the family. It didn't feel to hot out so I only put a light sunscreen on. The heavy duty sunscreen feels too slimy to have on especially with beach sand around.

That’s good to hear it wasn’t bad.
I’m the opposite, I’m pasty white hehehe 🤭 I have to wear long sleeves and protect as much skin as possible. I will be a crispy lobster 🦞 otherwise hahaha 🤣
And yep, still living in Spain. But hopefully our moves goes along a bit quicker, many delays… 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 Back to 4 seasons for us. 😎

I wonder if their pears are edible like many other cacti.
