Three Tune Tuesday - Walkman Music

avatar

Here are a few bands I used to listen to on my Sony walkman as a kid for this #threetunetuesday by @ablaze

I first discovered the band Helmet by trading some basketball cards for some cassette tapes. I had never heard of them before and ended up really liking the drums as I was a drummer in school back then.

Temple of the Dog is a collaboration band between Soundgarden and Pearl Jam and they ended up sounding pretty good. This cassette eventually got me into those two bands later on. I got it on sale at the store, I think no one knew it was a collab album at the time.

I borrowed a Primus cassette from a buddy on a road trip to a high school basketball game. It was pretty entertaining listening to this album to pass the time on the bus while we headed out to a tiny school in the boonies to play an away game. I never listened to them again after that until they did the Southpark theme song a few years later.

That's all for now thanks for looking :-)

Trading cards? cassette tapes? what are these ancient things you speak of? lol Nice selection of '90s tunes. My cassettes were a bit older. I never had one of my own but remember the 8 track in my older brothers car.

Those cassettes wore out fairly fast too. Eventually it would start sounding garbled and if you listened close enough you could hear the b side playing backwards. By late high school i finally got a cd player that would skip if you barely bumped it. I wonder where all my shaq rookie cards are lol if anyone would even buy the things now.

I found this at a second hand store on my travels recently!

I'd have bought them all if I had storage and funds 👀

You have alot of work to burn those to wav or mp3 files.

I'm sure there's an old cassette player out there somewhere...

But I can't be carrying stuff around right now.

Digital and the Cloud sure does make it simpler to travel light, huh?

I have all my old music on an external hard drive somewhere lol. Sold all my cds. I'd better make a mirror copy of that hard drive just in case any corruption happens.

Oh you had better do that.

I lost pretty much everything in three failed hard drives all at the same time.

I'm calling foul play on that one.

I have multiple cloud storage though. Worth doing 👍🏻

Couldn't scroll by when I saw the word "casette" :D

Hello old timer!

Pearl Jam tho, huh?! 🔥♥️💥

Can't not... this one has a special memory for me. A boy/girl black leather clad geek. Still one of my besties and what a night that was!

Ah yes I remember that album well. I did end up buying it in cd form and it had that cool paper packaging.

I had it on CD :)

But plastic cover. It was Greatest Hits and not the full album so...

Nice.

These are some songs that definitely have the feel of the time, too. Definitely cassette worthy!

It was always a shame when the tape would eventually get tangled up and ruined. I succesfully patched some back together for a while but they would eventually all fail.

Trading cards for tapes, love it!!! Pure 1980s shit that like!!

The drumming in Unsung is quality, you could do worse than listen to these guys for inspiration back in the day!

That's mad that you got into Temple of the Dog before Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, I was the other way around, what a combo, pure class..

I love the start of that Primus video with the guitar strings.. Mad auld song that!!
