Sitar Saturday - Sitar Fusion Jams
It is time for another #sitarsaturday this time with a theme of fusion.
Here is Ashwin Batish jamming with numerous bandmembers. They are kind of fusing lots of different styles together in this performance. It kind of reminds me a bit of some prog rock bands who go into an experimental phase.
Here is Anoushka Shankar playing sitar with an entire orchestra that has some handpan added to it. Quite an interesting mix where the sitar can remain the lead. I see they are all using sheet music so this all had to be composed beforehand. You can scroll to any point of the video to get all kinds of different styles. For these long performances I like to put them on in the background while I code or troubleshoot something.
Speaking of music for coding, here is Ameya Kulkarni with an interesting mix of Tabla, some sitar samples and some synths. I am amazed at how well he mic'd the tablas especially the bass tabla. The sitar sample is interesting too how he got the bends with the touchstrip on the midi keyboard.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

Hey friend
Indeed all this tunes are beautiful
Men there are just so good expecially this last tune, I guess that's my favorite amongst the three
Thanks for sharing
I just discovered the last guy, he's really good at the tabla.
Interesting performances. The sitar music is more approachable to the Western ear in these settings. You mentioned coding music and progressive rock. My son was on a Pink Floyd kick for awhile for coding sessions. Hard to really put Pink Floyd in a box but prog rock isn't a wrong label.
Pink Floyd is instrumental enough for some nice coding concentration, I don't doubt that they spawned the prog rock genre.
