Mushroom Monday - City Mushroom and More

Here are a few finds from the weekend for this #mushroommonday

The first find is right from the middle of downtown Chicago. It appears to be possibly a chicken of the woods or some other polypore. It also looks like possibly a rat has taken a few bites out of it. I'll check there again this week to see if it got any bigger and to get a view of its surrounding amongst the skyscrapers.

I found even more twig parachutes aka Marasmiellus ramealis. They were all over the place on the bark paths in the forest.

At first glance it looks like they are growing out of the dirt but in reality they always grow out of wood or tiny twigs or even roots. This batch is pretty large compared to most I've found.

This appears to be some turkeytail just starting out on a dead log.

I'll keep an eye on this area to see if this blooms out into the typical turkeytail pattern. If not perhaps this is a different type of polypore...

Now for a strange orange thing... I suspect this might be the start of orange peel fungi aka Aleuria aurantia. Perhaps some larger fully grown ones will be out by next weekend.

Now for a fancy colorful fungi. This is violet-toothed polypore aka Trichaptum biforme.

At first glance it looks like another color variation of turkeytail. For the most part they look exactly like turkeytail and are even seen growing right next to turkeytail.

But the purple edge is what differentiates this from turkeytail. Also if you flip them over they have larger toothy spikes underneath that are purple as well. I wish I would have thought to peel one off and take a picture of the teeth for reference. Maybe next time if I can locate it again...

More soon, happy #mushroommonday

Trichaptum biforme is stunning and beautiful. I really like the little twig parachutes also. So delicate looking. Happy #mushroommonday 🙂

I'll have to do some research to see if the purple tooth might be medicinal like turkeytail. They look almost exactly the same other than the underside coloring.

All types are very beautiful, in the first picture it seems to me a very cool mushroom with a very beautiful color.

I visited it again today and it healed the rat bites from earlier.

The mushrooms that you breed all look very beautiful, but the first mushroom I have never seen, he is so unique

I'll be keeping an eye on it to see what it actually turns into. Right now it kind of looks like chicken of the woods but it could just be some other ganoderma.
