Market Friday - Preparing for My Newborn

Here's a day late post for this #marketfriday

I have a baby on the way in a month or so and went on errands shopping for a baby starter kit.

This is Buy Buy Baby a place that only has items for parenting and of course babies. Eventually I'll need to get a crib so I've been keeping an eye on them but that can wait until I get some other more urgent items.

The most urgent item to get is a newborn sized car seat. The hospitals around here won't let you take your baby home without one of these, and it has to be a recent model as old models have some kind of expiration on them according to state laws.

The main problem with buying an infant car seat is that they aren't necessarily compatible with strollers. So I'll have to get a stroller kit that will fit one of these car seats so I don't end up with duplicate items like a car seat for just the car and a seat for just the stroller lol. Different brands are definitely not compatible with others and sometimes not even within themselves. Eventually I found a decent stroller, car seat combo but it was of course out of stock so I had to order it online instead.

Another item to get for the newborn is a bassinet. This seems interesting as it will grow with the baby where there is a bassinet then a deeper mesh crib with a removable level to turn it into a play pen. The only problem with this thing is it is very low tech and doesn't have some modern features like rocking, white noise and different comforting things for the baby. Looking back at my childhood I was raised like a savage compared to all this stuff that is available for newborns now lol. I think my bassinet was probably just a blanket in a small drawer lol.

Eventually I got a bassinet that has the modern features like vibration, music, white noise and rocking as well as a feature that will listen for when the baby cries where it will go into a comfort mode of rocking then music etc depending how you program it. In the mean time I have to assemble this thing now.

Fortunately all the parts were in the box and the instructions are pretty easy to understand.

Now its fully assembled and I plugged it in and all the features work great. So once my stroller car seat combo arrives in next week I'll be fully ready for our newborn.

I will definitely save some money by not getting these custom baby back packs from the store. I'll probably use one of my hiking backpacks instead to pack all the baby accessories like diapers etc.

Look at all these calming noise machines for taking the baby out in public. There are some shaped like a toy that emulates a heart beat to calm them down should they start crying. I'll see if these are needed later once I get associated with my daughter's personality.

As she gets older there will be more accessories along the way like these rockers, and of course there are all kinds of babyproofing things to buy once she starts crawling around... With all this gear I can see why people have more than one child to be able to stretch out their investments in the hardware lol.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

I heard about this from my sister who migrated in Canada. In our place this is not needed. We just carry the baby in our arms.

I think preparing for baby needs is exciting! Hoping will be doing that too soonest! Hoping it would be next year.

It seems like quite a lot of bureaucracy for something as natural as having a baby. Those infant car seats are quite expensive too.

Wow! I can relate to you. I am also a first time mom. My son is 2 years old now but way back then just like you I prepared everything before he comes out. It's very exciting.

We're having a daughter, I may need some tips from you eventually lol. Next week I'm taking a child cpr class as well as some extensive childcare classes.

One of the exciting part is when you become a mother,so all we need to do then is to prepare things needed...I can relate this too.

Anytime I see baby things, I always get excited. Also, you mean if a baby car seat has expire they won't let you take your baby outta hospital based on the state law.. That's cool though.. Nothing like that here in my country. Wishing you safe delivery

Having a baby is one of those things in life that you are never ready for. No amount of prep with prepare you.
Some things in life you just have to experience. My advice for the car seat is when its time to take the baby home have someone with you that has young children to put the car seat in for you 😁 As far as the gadgets go, we played classical music on a CD player and listened from the next room. That tells you how old I am. But my point is the perfect gadget won't make you the perfect dad, you will figure that out on your own and I'm sure you will 👍

I'll take your advice, I have someone I can draft for baby seat installation in the car. As per the music my parents just let me cry myself to sleep lol They didn't even have cd player tech back then. This bassinet will be pretty high tech, has bird sounds and 15 different sounds and vibrations and rocking settings, even a heartbeat sound. Hopefully she'll like some combo of those sounds to calm down...

My wife tells me the nurses will help with the car seats these days. So no worries there...

Omg… what you said about being raised as a savage got me laughing. I think we were all raised in the same way, comparing the things babies get for comfort now to those days😂. Babies are coming with a lot of cost now. This is aside feeding. Very interesting. I think I need to start saving

A basic baby starter kit seems to run at least $2500 bucks around here, not counting medical costs of course.

Congratulations!!! That is such exciting news AND your life will never be the same again!!! No hospital in the US will let you take a baby home without a certified baby seat. :) I'm not sure what they do everywhere else, but, they do have programs where they give parents a baby seat. They aren't cheap and some cannot afford them.

You really went all out! OMG! That is awesome, but, I did find that I didn't need a lot of the things I bought. Or I may have used them. but, it didn't seem like they really needed it. Are they stimulating? Sure! I love the way you are all ready! That is awesome!!!!

Hello! Hello! Market Friday is running so late this week, I was under the weather a bit and I will be out of town for about ten days. I apologize for the delay in answering and I hope you know how much I appreciate the great participation. I will be busy while I am gone, so I put #MarketFriday on Vacation for this week and next. You are welcome to participate, a lot of people do, but, I might not be able to comment all as my time is not my own for this time. I will probably upvote all when I get the time, but, I wanted to be fair and let you know.

I try to let people know how much I appreciate their participation in #MarketFriday! Even though I get many on a weekly basis, each one is read and enjoyed. Last week, I learned about a traditional wedding ceremony that follows Jewish laws and traditions. Interestingly enough, it was not in the post but in the comments between us discussing the post. Interaction. It was written by @tali72 who is a transplant to Israel. I enjoy learning about the world and how it is to live in your corner of it, and if there are solutions to making it better in any way. I find it interesting to compare, not by the world's standards, but, by how we find the quality of our life with different indicators than the world does. It is not always about the wealth in money, sometimes money means very little when there is no value behind it. You cannot buy health although you can take care of what you have. Being educated isn't always about schooling, but acquiring knowledge and using it for the better good and happiness of the society you are living in. It is with great pleasure that I read through this and all of the posts, with these thoughts in mind.

Don't miss the small things in your life, they usually make no noise but can be indicators of bigger things. I enjoy learning more about you and hope you feel the same, that is why I find it important to take the time to read a couple of #MarketFriday posts and leave a genuine comment. It is important for a community to do this, learning about others, and getting to know each other. The fun is in getting to know people and making a positive contribution to community life. All this fun and money too. What is not to love? That is one of the reasons I joined Hive. How about you? :) I leave you with the guidelines. I hope you are having an amazing week!

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

I'll keep in mind not to overbuy stuff especially with inflation. My wife got a garment sewing machine recently just to sew various sizes of baby clothes, hopefully we can make it last until the growth spurts are over.
