Its Squirrel Sunday Again - Juveniles
Well, it looks like its #squirrelsunday again, this time I present some juvenile squirrels for you.
Here is a juvenile fox squirrel that hasn't quite yet grown into its nose yet. It's about 2/3rds its full grown size.
Here's another little juvenile. I tend to see them emerge around April each year and they aren't quite sure what to think of humans yet.
At this age most of them don't immediately run away from you until the last moment. This lets you get close for good shots. Once I was even able to pet one before it's instincts kicked and and it darted up the tree.
Sadly when they are juveniles the hawk, foxes and owls weed them out pretty quickly. Only the ones with the strongest instincts survive.
This one seemed to be quite scared of me so it will probably survive. I suspect the tame juveniles get eaten first.
Here's one right above my head on a branch. It will have to learn how to harvest walnuts and acorns soon.
Here is a full grown one that has learned an easier way to get food.
It checks the picnic tables at the park for leftovers after people have finished eating. I'm sure it dumpster dives into the trash can in the background as well.
They even check the seats for any crumbs left behind. Much more profitable than scavenging for wild food. The only problem is this area is prime real estate so many squirrel battles take place over the human food.
This one was off in the distance looking mournfully at the picnic table jealous of the tough squirrel who has land rights to that area. For now it will have to eat the healthier wild food and learn better fighting skills to overthrow the king squirrel of the picnic table.
That's all for now happy #squirrelsunday :-)
that squirrel is so beautiful
It's part of the new crop of squirrels for last year.
