Good Lighting at the Lake
It was a nice sunny afternoon out and I was hoping to find some good subject matter to shoot. Fortunately the lake didn't disappoint, the great egret was sitting there all nice and lit up in the sun at the right angle.
It even stuck around as I moved around it to get better angles of light.
It cast a few sort of alarmed glances in my direction then went back to hunting.
Gotta line up a nice reflection shot with such a good poser.
I waited for a good 10 minutes but it didn't manage to find a fish to strike at. They probably just sit like this all day long hoping to get enough food for the day.
Off in the distance something else caught my eye.
More baby ducklings at this time of year?
They better stick close to mom or the egret might spear one of them.
She swam over to the edge where I was at. I wonder if anyone has been feeding them, they kind of look like they are expecting a treat.

I was not expecting to see ducklings this late in the year, and then they seam right up to the camera too lol.
Mid winter I too was surprised to see ducklings, although species may breed more often not being familiar with them.

The momma duck in that last shot is looking straight into the camera. Got the kids there. All she needs is a good sign... "Lost job, need crackers" 🤔 Great lighting on the egret. Couldn't do better in a studio. Reflection is perfect. Patience in the animal world is crazy. Like a cat waiting for a mouse.
They love crackers especially cheezits. I think i saw someone throwing popcorn at them even though its not allowed.

I thought about making that one the cover image but went with the closer up one with the eye caustic reflection.

Those egret shots were wonderful!
It would have been awesome to see it catch something in that lighting but it had not luck that day.
