Amanita Explosions

I found loads of Amanita muscaria var. guessowii in the forest.

This forest was full of evergreens and amanitas were growing everywhere. Here is one just bursting through the soil.

Now a slightly larger one. These things remind me of a mushroom cloud explosion.

Look at this one. These are the time when they have their best color.

Now here is one with its cap just starting to expand. At this point they lose their red and become fully yellow.

At this point they are fully matured. Technically these yellow amanitas have some of the psychedelic compounds that the red ones have just way less of it.

Stoners often think they hot the jackpot with these things but end up not getting much of a high. Perhaps the squirrel that took a bite out of this one got a buzz of somekind.

Once they get older the caps start inverting into a goblet shape.

I read somewhere that after a rain these goblet shaped caps collect the water and some of the psychedelic properties end up being distilled in the rainwater.

I wouldn't recommend drinking rainwater from one of these goblets. Do your own research before messing with these guys.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

Nice pics. The first two look like scoops of ice cream that fell of some poor kids ice cream cone 😂 We have lots of white pine plus hemlock and cedar in the forest around here. Lots of amanitas

Some sort of peach sherbet fell off a nice waffel cone. Do you get the red ones up there? Far north is the only place I've seen the red ones.

Didn't see any of these, but my daughter brought me this one today. Lunch?

Those are really good tempura style in sweet and sour sauce. Complements their slight watermellon taste. Be sure not to eat the tough part near the stem.

Looking up a recipe for sweet and sour sauce.... Easy enough! Thanks.

They also work well with a lemon ginger soy sauce mux after battering and deep frying them.

I made sweet and sour. It was easy and turned out very tasty. I have enough tempura batter to make a few onion rings, too.

The best dryad's saddle I ever had was growing out of a willow tree, had a slight bit more sweet taste to it compared to other trees' dryad's saddles.

I enjoyed this one a lot! A fine lunch. And glad to learn that my sweet and sour sauce is way better than any out of a jar or packet. If I had known how easy it is I would have begun making it years ago!

More confirmation needed before I eat these.

Oysters on semi dead ash tree?

Those don't look like oysters to me. The gills don't run down the stem far enough and the stems looks different.

Wow! This amanitas looks so beautiful with its yellowish colour and they got beautiful shapes too, I like all their shapes at different stages. Just look how you captured them so well....I was wondering, Are they edible?

All of amanitas edible. Most of them only once...

I know a few stoners who have eaten them they are hallucinogenic and cause foaming at the mouth with repetitive motion. Probably not deadly to a healthy person but not terribly pleasant to eat lol.

I really want to get mushrooms like the ones in your picture, but unfortunately in my area these mushrooms never grow and there have never even been mushrooms of the species like yours. I really like your yellow mushroom.

I'm sure you have some sort of amanita in your area, though it is probably white and very deadly lol.
