Yesterday I was in Portogruaro for work!

I hope you are well and that everything is going smoothly. Yesterday, due to work commitments, I had to travel to Veneto, another region of Italy, as I had to meet clients in Portogruaro, a beautiful town of almost 25,000 inhabitants, closely tied to the Republic of Venice. And, of course, I couldn't resist taking a stroll through the streets of this town. Indeed, I took advantage of a brief moment of clear weather, as unfortunately, the weather hasn't been very favorable for walks lately. Arriving in Portogruaro, I encountered several flooded areas on the streets due to heavy rain in recent days.

At first glance, I must say that Portogruaro is truly a beautiful town. It's that classic kind of place—not too large in population but not too small either, a middle ground. And I must say, it's a lovely location situated on the Lemene River, explaining its historical role in trade between Venice and Austria.

The first building that catches your eye upon arrival is practically the Town Hall of Portogruaro. This building follows the Venetian Gothic style, which I find very appealing. It's not the first of its kind I've seen in Veneto; many buildings, especially in Venice, share this architectural style. In the square, you can admire the leaning bell tower, which is slightly inclined. I discovered that it's the third leaning bell tower in Italy, likely due to the marshy ground causing a gradual tilt over the years, similar to what happened to the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Along the river, you can also see numerous ancient mills. In the past, these were used for flour production and milling in general. Some of them can be visited with guided tours, but unfortunately, I passed by during the week when no tours were being organized.

In conclusion, I can say that Portogruaro is definitely worth a visit. Both historically and architecturally, it's worth taking a stroll through the streets of this small town. I noticed there was also a museum, possibly archaeological, to visit, but unfortunately, I didn't have the time. Nonetheless, it can represent a wonderful gem in our country. As you may have gathered, I enjoy sharing about these places that aren't too touristy, as you might discover unique things to see.
