The 2016 Centennial Gold Mercury Dime

The Winged Liberty Head dime, commonly referred to as the Mercury Dime, is one of the beloved coin design of US Constitutional silver.

It is a favorite of many silver stackers, as it is mine.

So when the United States Mint released a gold version of the Winged Liberty Head dime, coin enthusiasts and stackers alike were pleased, as I was!

The 2016 Mercury Dime Centennial Gold Coin

On the obverse of the coin is Adolf A. Weinman's Winged Liberty. The Winged Liberty design was confused by many as Mercury, the Roman messenger god, hence the common usage of Mercury Dime. The engravings includes the "Liberty" and "In God We Trust", the year of issue, and an AW initial for Weinman.

The reverse side of the coin features Weinmans original reverse design of a Roman fasces and an olive branch. These combined images represent Americas military might and readiness, yet a determination for peace. Engravings on this face include United States of America, One Dime, and E Pluribus Unum.

It is a pretty coin!!! I love the silver Mercury Dimes. It's great to play with them (cuz they are SILVER).

Have you come across these Mercury Dimes in your travels, @littlebee4? They were struck by the United States Mint from late 1916 to 1945. I'm so smitten by these lovely coins.

Although I have in a box an old collection from coins. So who knows.
After we move later this year, I have to unpack some boxes to have a look. Some boxes are packed for the last years as we moved so much hahaha 🤣

I Love it @silversaver888!🤗. One of mine and Liz’s favorites as well! Liz has a matching pair of earrings in the constitutional silver version! I’m sure when she sees this post she’s going to want though the gold version LOL!😇

YES! Give her a pair of Gold Centennial Mercury Dimes!
Just make sure the bezel doesn't damage the coins, and keep then when they are not in use... to protect the coin! Liz would love that, @silvertop🤗

Very true about the bezel I didn’t think of that @silversaver888 !🤔 I wonder how many people would notice these gold earrings, the constitutional silver ones hardly anyone notices LOL!
Even her half sovereign gold earrings mostly go unnoticed…

That is very nice! I have two special silver Mercury dimes that are a matched pair. I put them into bezels and made a pair of earrings out of them. I should pull them out and wear them! Maybe you should get another one and put bezels on them and do the same! Not only can you stack it, but then, you can wear it!

I've favored the Mercury dime over the Roosevelt dime for it's Neo classical theme, and I like it even more when in gold. Just don't mix it up with the Silver dimes. 😄

That's a beautiful coin and the box is really nice , I recently seen a gold plated silver dime from someone else in the #silvergoldstackers group I think I would probably have to settle for the budget version too 😂 pure gold is just too steep for me when I can get so much more silver

Gold is the better buy give the ratios. But silver is too attractive!

I'm just more into the design so silver is my go to, I had one fractional gold coin before but I find when it's fractional the premium tends to be very high, but I think I'm going to take a loss and buy some soon, my local shop sells small viles with gold dust in it looks very cool so I think I'm going to get it although it's 30 dollars extra compared to fraction gold coins of the same weight but I'm going to probably get it because I thought it was really cool
