2021 Peace Silver Dollar

(Edited)

The United State Mint commemorates the 100th anniversary first-ever Peace Dollar with a silver coin.

2021 (P) Peace Silver Dollar Coin

The Peace Dollar coin came with a Certificate of Authenticity. The coin is encapsulated and presented inside a black box from the United States Mint. Like all coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint, there is no mint mark that appears on the coin.

Lady Liberty is depicted with a towering, spiked crown reminiscent of rays of sunshine. This design is based on Anthony de Francisci's effigy of Liberty.

On the reverse side is a bald eagle as it rests on a rock inscribed with word "PEACE" against rays of sunshine rising from the lower fields of the coin. The eagle clutches an olive branch in its talons. The new reverse was meant to reflect the hard-earned peace of World War I.

The Peace Silver Dollar holds a distinction as the last circulation silver coin issued by the United States Mint and the federal government. Coins were struck at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints, and first issued as a celebration of world peace after World War I. The coins were minted in 1921 to 1928 and 1934 to1935.

A beautiful coin, @tattoodjay.
In 1921 there was PEACE!
And maintaining it... only you and those involved know what it takes, @tattoodjay!
Enjoy this coin.
It commemorates the first time the Peace Dollar was issued.

Very nice coin for a 100-year cap to the Peace series. You have such an interesting collection. Mine consists solely of a 1986 commemorative silver dollar that I bought the year my first child was born. It's all by itself in my safe deposit box, hopefully, to be gifted to my first great-grandchild. But I could see myself getting hooked on creating a collection!

Yay! When you do start collecting, tell me!
1986 was the first year the American Silver Eagle was issued.
It's a pretty coin!
When before you can buy the Eagles at $2,50 over the spot price, now it is like $10.

Hmm, maybe it's karma that I should start there, with the American Silver Eagles!

It's such a shame that they stopped producing coins in silver, but that's what the powers that be do.

The Peace dollar brings back memories when I was a child; I had an aunt and uncle, who were childless. When me and my brother would be at their house, they always spoiled us, and one way they did that was by putting silver dollars, half dollars and other change in the davenport, as they called it. Of course, we would go looking for it and amassed a bit of a pile of silver coins. Unfortunately, I recall that my parents took the money we were saving-times were lean back then for my family, and we never saw the coins again. I can just now imagine what must have been in the piggy!

A nicely done commemorative sis! Thanks for sharing!

Can you imagine!
Thank for the story!
You can still save a piggy full of silver dollars for your grandchild-- should one the coming!

Hugs and Kisses sis 🥰🌺🤙!!

If only! I think I'm never going to have a grandchild. One set I suspect won't have any at all, and the other is waiting for 'the right time'. I learned years ago, there is not necessarily a 'right time' and if you wait for that, snap! You're too old to have them! I'm going to have to start dropping some serious hints I guess!
