50% Disc Dinner: Tangy Korean Chicken Dosirak

avatar
(Edited)

A couple of days ago, we ordered food online because at that time my husband was not feeling well and I was too tired to cook or go out to buy food. We chose Asian food at a restaurant called Bumbu Asia. My husband ordered Beef Yakiniku Bento, and I ordered Tangy Korean Chicken Dosirak.

By chance, the app provided many discounts for certain foods and restaurants. I chose a 50% discount for our order. So we can eat well with low prices and save more money. I feel like I'm a smart wife :D

About 30 minutes later, the order came. I told my husband to eat first because he was very hungry. So I didn't take pictures of his food, only mine.

Tangy Korean Chicken Dosirak

Dosirak means “lunchboxes” packaging in Korean. It's the same with "bento" in Japanese. Dosirak usually contains rice with vegetables, kimchi, main meat dishes, and side dishes.

Tangy Korean Chicken Dosirak is a meal package with a main side dish of chicken with tangy sauce.

Packaging

Neat and eye catchy, that's the first impression I saw of this food packaging.

It's in the form of a dark plastic lunch box with dividers and covered by transparent plastic. The box is wrapped with a small red paper ribbon, with the Bumbu Asia logo, their IG account, and some food ingredients images. Interesting design.

Set Menu

The set menu consists of rice, chicken with tangy sauce, beef mandu, kimchi, and potato salad.

Rice

White rice sprinkled with black sesame. The portion was enough for me, but for my husband the portion wasn't enough. It would be nice and more delicious if the rice was still warm, but unfortunately when we received it, the rice was already a little bit cold. Maybe it lost its warmth on the way here.

But it didn't matter. Seeing that there were sesame seeds that looked like a smile emoji was amused me.

Chicken with Tangy Sauce

Pieces of fried chicken with white sesame and tangy sauce. The taste was good but the sauce was too thin. Most of the chicken was dry and it was a little hard to dip it into the sauce.

Generally, Korean tangy sauce chicken is supposed to look this way:

The tangy sauce itself is made from soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, chili flakes, sesame oil, and gochujang (a spicy paste made from red chili peppers, glutinous rice, and fermented soybeans – merriam-webster.com).

If you want to know more about the recipe, you can also check the recipe on that website.

Beef Mandu & Kimchi

Mandu is Korean-style dumpling filled with meat or vegetables, served fried, boiled, or steamed. The beef mandu in this menu is a fried dumpling with minced beef filling. It's crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. It was nice and tasty. Too bad there was only one piece :P

Kimchi is a traditional Korean food made of fermented vegetables. It's usually made from cabbage, seasoned with spices such as salt, shallots, garlic, sugar, ginger, and chilies.

It's sour and spicy. I really like it. But too bad there was a tiny portion. I think I'm gonna request some extra kimchi when I want to reorder it someday .

Potato Salad

Consists of potatoes and boiled eggs topped with mayonnaise. Too bad it wasn't really tasty. But it tastes better when I added chili sauce.

Price

The price of Beef Yakiniku Bento is 60,000 IDR
Tangy Korean Chicken Dosirak is 45,000 IDR
Total 105,000 IDR.
Because of the 50% discount, we paid 55,500 IDR only. Equivalent to about 3.xx USD or about 2.x HIVE.
Pretty cheap, right? :D

Overall, the Korean food I ordered was good, but there are some items that need to be improved. Due to a discount, I'm rating it 4/5 on the app. From all those menu set, my favorites were beef mandu and kimchi, and then the chicken.

If it wasn't because of the discount, I think the price is a bit pricey. Especially because the taste wasn't really really special. So thanks for a new-year discount :P

Thank you for reading. Have a nice day!
