A living fence to stop my very lively dog | Una valla viva para frenar a mi perro muy vivo

Fences are not necessarily always beautiful. Separating something does not always have a positive effect either. A fence can be annoying. It may bother some people and there are certainly many fences that are not necessary. But if you like your dog, for example, and don't want to keep looking for it at your neighbour's or in the neighbouring village, a fence is very helpful.

There are fences all around my house. Until 5 years ago there were only fences in a few places, but since a few years we have a very loving and black dog. A Labrador who brings us all joy but becomes very independent when he comes through the fence somewhere.

You may have already calculated that the dog will fit through the new living fence. That is true, the distances between the branches are still too large. However, this will change when the fence has grown for 1-2 years. It is a willow fence that grows very quickly and the new branches are woven in. This way the distances get smaller quickly. So far, my dog can't reach the fence because there is another fence in between.

Property rights will change in the next 2 years. A piece of land currently cuts through mine. This is impractical at the moment but I was able to come to an agreement with the neighbouring owner and negotiated a property exchange.

Since these changes are now foreseeable, I have already planted this willow fence at the end of the property. They are willows that need to be cut very regularly. They can easily grow up to 2 metres in one year. The quality is excellent for weaving, e.g. baskets.

I planted the Willow 2 weeks ago. I assume that they have already sprouted roots as this happens very quickly with Willows. You can't see it yet in the form of sprouts. But regular watering will lead to strong growth even in the first year. Then, somewhat unexpectedly, there was a small winter slump.

The Easter bunny was hit particularly hard. The snow looks great. It certainly slowed down the growth a bit but it won't have hurt them.

Now winter is gone again I am looking forward to weaving in the first sprouts. I am also happy that willows help insects. These have declined here in the region over the last decades due to intensive agriculture.

I love the content and formatting of your posts.

When you mix in some pets, do-it-yourself projects like that fence, and a little familiar snow, that is my jam!

Garden season is almost upon us and those poor snow-covered daffodils will be happy.

Your living fence looks lovely. I'm glad to hear it will survive the snow. Which country do you live in? It looked warm and sunny in the earlier pictures so I was surprised to see the snow.

Thank you @gillianpearce. It's not very common for us to have snow in April, clearly 50 years ago it was different. But as an exception it happens every few years. I live in Germany. When it does snow, it's usually gone again on the same day. Damage usually only occurs when it is significantly below zero for a day or night.
