Battle Analysis - Strategy Guide #1

🐲Hi Everyone!🐲

One thing I really enjoy doing is analyzing my battles to see where I got it right or where I went wrong. As I don't usually post much about Splinterlands, I thought I'd try to make something simpler but that might help players understand and improve their battle strategies.

Obviously I'm not a Splinterlands "genius", but maybe I can help the community (especially those who are just starting out), showing how I think about some battles in a very strategic way.
So I'm going to be starting a series of posts on this subject so that everyone can expand their notions of strategy before the battle starts.

🐲Before The Battle🐲

The Rules: 46 Mana, life, death and dragon enabled.

Weak Magic: Magic attacks hit armor before reducing health.

Keep Your Distance: Monsters with melee attack type can't be used.

Here I thought the following before the beginning:

  1. As the rules would force ranged attacks and magic, it was obvious that I would try to counter one of these types.
  2. The water element was banned, which in my opinion is the strongest element for magic.
  3. The Weak Magic rule, perhaps, would force the opponent to use ranged monsters soon instead of magic, as magic would catch first in shield.

Of course there aren't many ranged and magic monsters that have shields, but... there was the possibility to use the summoner "Tyrus Paladium" which grants +1 shield to all allied monsters.
Here I believe my opponent tried to take advantage of this rule by imagining that I would just use magic or something.

To make the counter I used the death summoner "Contessa L'ament", which has -1 ranged attack ability. As said, I raised the hypothesis that not much magic would be used and my opponent would try to come with a long range, wanting to get around the Weak Magic rule.

🐲Line Up🐲

Below, how my and my opponent's line ups were assembled:
image.png

1) Peaceful Giant > Placed in the first position for being the possible tank to use, as he has no attack, he joins this game and with his 8 life, he becomes the ideal tank.

2) Onyx Sentinel > Here came a card that worked as I wanted. Reducing 1 melee or ranged damage, I thought this way: If there comes some ranged with 2 attack, it will get 1 because of my summoner's ability, so staying with 1 attack, it wouldn't suffer damage and that was the big strategy!

3) Venari Bonesmith > A card that I love and think is very good, despite her magic attack being nerfed in this game, her ability to increase 1 life was what made her enter. If by chance he reached the top position, he could already have a lot of life, becoming a second tank.

4) Twisted Jester > One of the best ranged cards of the death element, he wanted to take advantage of his sniper ability and also for having 2 attack.

5) Mantoid > Another very good card, with decent body and sniper ability, I also put it because it has 2 damage.

6) Grim Reaper > Maybe putting the Grim Reaper at the end was wrong, I could get countered by some ranged with the sneak skill, but in the end it all worked out. I also took advantage of its attack power in 3 and its your ability that has a chance to apply an effect that cuts the hit card's healing ability.

🐲Battle🐲

Explaining from the second round:
image.png

My opponent's sniper cards focused on the sentinel onyx, as expected, his "Mantoid" was dealing "zero damage" and the "Silvershield Sheriff" who had 2 attack, was taking only 1 life from him, holding the game well.

This was all planned!
Because the sniper cards focus from the second position onwards, magic cards, ranged or without attack, that was exactly the strategy. While my first 2 monsters held the game, my ranged cards (2 being snipers) destroyed the opponent's cards in first and second position.

image.png
In round 3, we can already see that the enemy is already dominated, his monsters have already fallen, while mine are all still standing.

image.png
In round 4, in first position, ranged monsters don't attack, and the opposing "Mantoid" was nullified, doing "zero damage" to my onyx sentinel, so the match was already over.

🐲Conclusion🐲

As I said, this strategy guide is to show that sometimes thinking calmly before a certain battle, things can work out much easier than just putting the cards on the field and hoping that everything works out.

I hope I can bring more guides like this, maybe open the minds of many new players who are playing wrong and need an incentive to see what to do and how to do it in a battle with different rules, which are out of the ordinary.

👊I hope that somehow I help the community! See you next time👊

Thanks to everyone for your attention to my post and for your support.

Very well done. That's a great budget answer to that ruleset and mana, and I you did a great job breaking it all down. Keep up the good work.
