RE: Making Mushroom and Garlic Pasta Sauce

This time of year when fresh tomatoes are abundant, I love plain tomato sauce. The basic version is a chopped onion cooked in butter, skinned, chopped tomatoes added and left to simmer entry for a very long time at the back of the stove. Season to taste.

Sometimes I add a clove of garlic, sometimes some fresh herbs, but nothing beats the buttery, tomatoey, oniony taste.

My tomato plants in the garden box are a couple of feet tall now but I haven't seen ANY blooms yet! Maybe I'll be harvesting October or November tomatoes? LOL

Mine were slow to get started here, it seemed to take a long time to warm up this Spring. I have had a reasonable crop, but not as good as last year. They got moving when we had some very hot weather!

I guess if you can protect the plants with a cloche or some fleece, you could still harvest late in the year. I bought my last retainers in last year before the frosts started (end of September-ish).
