Five Years on the Chain - one of only 124,574 people 😂

Source An image from the James Webb Space Telescope. This is a star forming region called NGC 3324 in the Carina nebula.

I found these images so beautiful and so inspiring. After the past two years and our ridiculous UK politics, it was wonderful to have new worlds to contemplate as I reached my fifth anniversay on Hive. I am a little late posting: the actual anniversary was somewhere around 4:30pm (BST) last Sunday, 17 July 2022, but what's a few days in the continuum of space and time?

I am in my penultimate week before taking a break from work for the whole of August and it feels great. I've been lucky to have employment and an income through the whole of the pandemic and since. I work with 27 charities which provide services across London to women surviving sexual and domestic violence and abuse.

We all worked all through the pandemic. My role during the lockdown was co-ordinating weekly intelligence meetings where we gathered information about what was happening to women in London, shared practical solutions to the challenges of moving all our services online, and fed into the pan-London forums and authorities who were attempting to continue to provide services to Londoners.

Still working remotely, and in and out of lockdown, we went into twelve months of multiple rounds of applying for the funding for our services, together with responding to consultations by the Mayor of London on Policing and Crime and the Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy. This was in the context of widespread problems in the Metropolitan Police Service, leading to the exit of the Commissioner of Police and, most recently, seeing the Service placed in special measures.

Today, as I approach my holiday, we still have all our members, every one of our charities has survived this difficult two years and continued to provide services. We have won, for the third time, our anchor funding and we continue to deliver a £25 million programme of community based services to over 30,000 women every year through a collaborative, decentralised approach.

This work has coincided almost exactly with my time on Hive. It is interesting to look at both experiences in that timeline. People who went to Krakow in Poland in 2018 may remember me trying to find ways to get the charities I was working with to adopt this amazing blockchain technology and all the new opportunities it provides from governance to abundance. I failed miserably: I was too far ahead of the curve 😁.

Source Here we all are in the Salt Mines in Poland, 2018. I'm in the picture with @slobberchops and @bingbabe. Can spot us?

There's something about being in the Salt Mines: old technology meeting new, this amazing world more than a thousand feet underground with huge cathedral galleries, a juxtaposition to the Carina nebula pictured above. I discovered cherry vodka, amongst other important things. Let me know in the comments if you spot yourself or anyone else in the picture.

I continue to be entranced by Hive. Whenever it starts feeling lackadaisical, something or someone happens. Thinking about the big picture and why I bother, these extracts from recent posts bring me hope and excitement:

... for the first time in our history, the entire economy has a competitor through blockchain and tokenization solutions. This means that there is going to be a tug of war with the outcome of control versus quality of life being fought between centralized and decentralized economics. This battle however needn't be as bloody as the revolutions of the past, because they will be determined by usage, not violence. Source

The undercurrent flows on, relentless, pervasive ...

I do not view crypto as a risk-on asset used to get rich. I view it as the only possible solution to the systemic failure known as modern society. I view it as the only way to scale up governance structures and the only way to stop absolutely corrupted entities from consolidating all the power in the world.

Hive specifically provides permissionless jobs that anyone can participate in. Does it need a lot of work? Sure, but the worst things get the more incentive we have to put everything we have into the future of the economy. Source

And for the avoidance of doubt ...

Another bear market is just another folded layer of steel as we forge this Katana of Crypto ... Source

This is what I find really exciting.

On to more prosaic things ...

On Sunday, on my anniversary, I powered up to 66,667 HP - two thirds of the way to my 100,000 HP goal ... 😍 I should hit my target in January 2025. That depends on the bear market, though, it could be sooner 😘.

Why? I want to build things here. We've hardly started.

Looking forward to the next five years 😁.

I couldn't find you. What I did find, however, is the light fixtures in the salt mines look like middle fingers. = }

High five!

They kind of do, too!

Meet again soon, I hope, if you are still here 😍

Ready when you are.

I wanted to say how where we're from the 5th means right to remain silent but didn't wanna seem inappropriate on the front page of your comment section. Totally acceptable now though. <3

Thank you 😍

I've just posted about a possible meet up on 6th September in London in the Brits discord ... I was thinking late afternoon/early evening (I haven't checked strike action yet, though).

That'd work for us actually. We'll only be in the area part of August and part of September and leaving for good the second week of October but that particular day works.

So kind, thank you 😍

I really enjoy your writing, one of the things I look for when I have some time to relax and browse. I love the inspirational posts, like the one I've taken the quote from, but all of them are great and lovely to dip into according to my mood.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday, too 🙂

Thank you @jimmy.adames, it's been interesting 😍.

Love hearing your stories about Brooklyn, by the way, great narratives for sharing, although I get that you are in a different place now.

Also love the videos, they make me smile 🙂.

Wow, congrats on five years! And I totally didn't know that that was what you did for work, either, that's great.

"Katana of crypto" made me smile. :) Also WOOHOO on your power up!!

Edited to add: I've failed miserably so far too trying to get fellow leftists into this space. Like it's literally online anarchism, decentralized, community-driven, experimenting with new types of governance! But the left has for the most part bought into "crypto is a scam" and "crypto is all pro-capitalist gambling that only rich people can afford" and things like that. Every time I've explained Hive and how it works, I often will get a "okay, fine, that one is different" but they still don't want to join in, because it's like, you'll get questioned that you're "not really left" or whatever.

Yeah, not my quote 😍 loved the title of the post, too: Outwit, Outplay, Outlast.

Mmm, lefties, they don't make it easy 😂. My anarchist friend just smiles sardonically when I start talking crypto - we all take forward the struggle where we can.

I'm pleased and proud that we have a decentralised offline version working in London, all the same kind of arguments and dilemmas (and gaming) you get on Hive, but moving forward all the same.

Good to have known you for this long-time 😍.

Happy Hivaversary! 5 years and counting wow, there is something special here. We can feel it, it’s darn hard to explain to most but once you get it, you get it.

Cheers 🥂 to HIVE > FIVE more years and more!

Congrats. I'll clock up six years very soon. It's been fun all the way. I am sorry I didn't make it to the salt mine at SF3. I went home that morning, but should have stayed the extra night.

It's certainly been entertaining!

Do you know I looked for you for ages in that picture! I tried zooming in, but that just distorted the image. Now I know why I couldn't find you.

Amsterdam to look forward to!

Five years sounds super crazy indeed but actually I think I am also reaching this goal in like 2 months. Wtf time flies when you are having fun. Congrats with the goals!

Not seeing you guys in the saltmines pic though! I had a blast there I remember, the place was crazy so deep below and such a nice restaurant in there.

Are we seeing us this september in Amsterdam?

The Salt Mines were amazing, weren't they? What an experience!

Can you find yourself in the picture? 😍

I know some people have already booked for Amsterdam, I'm waiting on some things here. How about you?

I should hit my target in January 2025

I'm posting this to remain here as proof and future reference, you'll hit that target by the end of 2023 or the early part of 2024! 😁

Voted on ListNerds!

Hehe, love your optimism @drlobes 😍.

I was lucky with the first tranche - I benefited from an airdrop when Hive forked, plus we had that long cold crypto winter with plenty of time to accumulate ... but maybe you know something about the bear market? 😁

Here's to the future for all of us 🎺

Thank you 😍

The entrance number is on Hive Buzz: if you click on the icon for any given anniversary, it will tell you how many people hold that badge - it's up to over 125,000 now for five years.

Yes, I'm in that pending state. I reduced my hours and we have a plan for recruiting a replacement. Much more importantly, I am drawing as much pension as I can get away with 😍.

Happy 5th hive anniversary @shanibeer

I couldn't spot you in the pic of the salt mine banquet, despite zooming in lol

That is one hell of a goal you have of 100k hive by the end of the year, and I'm sure you'll make it 🙂 What would that be classified as? Would you be a whale?

Anyway, all the best and I'm only a few weeks younger than you as my 5 yr hive-versary is approaching, sometime in August.

We are pretty well-hidden 😍.

Not by the end of the year - it took five years to get here, so I'm estimating another two and a half to make the 100K - although it may be quicker given a bear market and a following wind. Whales are something like 550k HP and rising these days. It would just mean I'd achieved a personal goal and can support some things I wanted to see happening.

Thank you, all the best to you and looking forward to your hive-versary, it's good that so many longstanding people are still around 😍.

I love the work you all do for those charities, it’s so needed. 💗

I failed to spot you in the photo. 🤦🏽‍♀️😄

I am so excited for you and your goals. That’s pretty amazing and I look forward to continue growing my account so that I can better support people and projects as well ~

Hello @crosheille, I've enjoyed getting to know you, too, and all the things we've shared 😍. Love the work you do on the chain and so pleased with how you are building communities.

I'm hidden in the photo, you can see me if you know where to look 😂. I'll give it away in a day or two.

I think Hive is pretty amazing, we've got such great opportunities!

Thank you 😍 Hehe - it took me a while, too, and I knew where we were sitting!

I've suggested 6th September behind Kings Cross Station as I shall be in London that day - just an informal, find somewhere to meet and have a drink or bite to eat, kind of thing. There are lots of eating places there and hopefully it wouldn't be too busy at that time of year/evening. Do you think you might pop up? 😁

Congrats on this milestone! I actually past the 5 years as well in June, but that was on my old account, and I switched to my new one a few years ago, so that's not registered :) But June 2017 it was for me :)

Interesting job you have, I have considered working in such a field at some point when I was the one in need for help with my children in Holland. I was let down horribly and my (I can safely say) psycho ex won every battle and even made me leave the country as he took our 2 kids from me. I swore to share the true story later, I have written a lot about it, but at some point, I felt that I rather focus on the good stuff than keep going back to these times. It will never stop hurting, and I had the ambition to somehow help other women to speak up and be heard like I wasn't while I had all the evidence, yet, I walked another path and decided this would probably mean I'd be somehow constantly "in his power" instead of living my life and focus on what I love.

I do respect people like you BIG time as I know many don't have a voice and will not be heard if there is not at least one person that will show them it's not their fault and they should break the silence. Thank you for being you!

I still enjoy it here a lot. I think things have evolved nicely so far. I think one of the keys to enjoying it for me is to post what I like when I want to. I feel no pressure and that keeps it fun!

Imagine catering to over 30,000 women in one year. This is great news and I love the collaboration with your teams, keep up the good work. If actually, we have some group like you in my area up to 4-5 involved, definitely my country will be better.
