Senstless Family 2021 Summer Road Trip Day 4 -Taking Flight - Hang Gliding with Kitty Hawk Kites!

This is by Far the biggest road trip we have taken!!!

I know this happened back in May, but I am finally able back to blogging and decided this would be a fun one to revisit and share. We did a 10 day road trip - and drove over 3000 miles!! We had a ton of fun and did something new everyday.

Bad news is I some how lost my log book for the trip that tracked times, miles and gallons of gas bought. Oh well. I do have the financial break down. Even with driving, free hotels, and not eating out.... I still don't want to revisit the carnage of spending.

Daily Tradition - We always see the Sun Rise while on vacation!

Of course we had Duck Donuts again today... why not - they are amazing and we are not going to get them again after this trip for a long, long time.

Flying with Kitty Hawk Kites!!

Mrs. Senstless had the great idea to go hang gliding. So we singed us all up and took a 4 hour class. We each got to go down a massive sand dune in Jockey's Ridge State Park. Some can reach up to 100' feet tall and are the tallest sand dunes in the Eastern US. The hill we were on was big, no idea how big, but they said it was the best of the two that they use.

Luckily they helped us out, and they held onto tethers, - so I couldn't get too stupid and let Mrs. Senstless collect on the life insurance policy. If I was left to my own, I am pretty sure I will still be in the ICU. They helped you launch and gave you constant instruction to keep it in sustained flight. We all had some really good flights down the hill, and the longer the flight the more addicting it was.

The kids used the white and blue glider, and the adults used the colorful ones. There were about 16 of us in total, and we all took turns. Other than getting a little hot, I wish I could have done it the rest of the day. I can see how this can be an addicting sport to get into.

Here is the only photo I could find from out time there first thing after Duck Donuts in the morning.
We came nice and early, it was us and the yoga class. That was about it for a long time. We had stopped by quick the day before after our airplane ride, and it was packed, but it was still the holiday so today was much better.

So - Not sure why I don't have any photos. I am thinking that my phone stayed in the dry bag, and my wife took all the photos. We spend an afternoon here, and it was much busier here than at our hotel. The other big tage away was the sand was much nicer. It was softer to walk in and play. The kids had a blast building sand castles digging holes and playing the small waves.

I also tried some metal detecting, but my super cheap machine plus salt water make it all but useless!!! I gave up after an hour false reading and running from getting it wet!!

My oldest really wanted to try fishing - but we had no gear, no license and I have no idea what I am doing in the ocean. He saw that people were catching small sting rays and thought it would be fun, but that was not something I was ready to do, 1500 miles from home with now way to keep fish fresh or cook it. We did meet some nice folks who talked to us for 30 min and showed us all the fish they were catching. Again - I am shocked I can't find anything on my phone, no idea why I didn't take any photos this day. They must all be on my wifes phone.
