Field Works 1

Hello, everyone interested in farming. We started working in the field about a month ago, but since it wasn't unique, I waited a bit to post it, and I've been busy painting the fence :)

My last post in the HiveGarden Community was the previous year, about five months ago, when my wife and I set up a makeshift garden bed, mainly for winter lettuce and radicchio. Unfortunately, it wasn't suitable for our conditions, there was too much rain and wind so the humidity made it fall apart and the wind tore the rest... :(
So, I stopped thinking about an enormous greenhouse.

At the end of November, we planted some garlic, which survived the winter (it was still relatively mild) and is now growing nicely.

Also, dandelions are the only vegetables that need not be planted because the fields are full. They have many medicinal properties, cleansing the blood and the liver. All the parts are helpful: the root, which is put into alcohol and then used as an ointment; the flowers, which are used to make various syrups; and the leaves, which are used for multiple salads, one recipe here, and can also be cooked like spinach.

We planted onions first this year, where we had potatoes last year. You have to change what you plant where every year.

The approach to arable cultivation is slightly different from last year. Last year, I first cleared the whole field of dry plant residues, and my neighbor plowed the field with a tractor. This year, however, my wife and I have decided to work piece by piece and not plow but just level part of the field with the motor cultivator before planting.

This is because I made two low wooden garden beds, and my wife already planted lettuce in one and strawberries in the other two weeks ago, and now it is not possible to plow :)

Even a few asparagus showed up. Although everyone told me this soil was unsuitable for asparagus, it's now in its fifth year here. But it will probably need replanted this year or a few more seedlings. These are from three weeks ago, and we have harvested over a kilo of them so far.

We planted potatoes two weeks ago. It's a little less than last year and in a different place. Again, I loosened the soil first with a motor cultivator and made rows. We were lucky it was dry because it had mainly rained since then, and the temperature had dropped from twenty to ten degrees Celsius.

The potatoes are in the ground, which is good, and the other vegetables, especially those in the beds, lettuce and strawberries, are growing well.

And at the end of the day, dusk slowly falls.

Thank you for your attention; this was the first post about our work in the field.

I will post more when the next round of planting comes, sometime in May when the soil is warmer.
In the meantime, while we wait for the cucumbers, green beans, and tomatoes, we will eat our lettuce and asparagus. 😛
If that's not a luxury, I don't know what is :)
