Back to Boatlife - Monomad Challenge

Hail to the Hive!

We have had our new Narrowboat for a few weeks now but it’s only just starting to sink in for me that we are back to boat life. As I am only on board on my off days from work at the moment it is taking a while for the reality to dawn on me that we are back on the canals, and it feels bloody good!

Waking up on the water and taking in our surroundings brings a smile to my face with memories of our previous 18months living afloat flooding back. The temporary surroundings of the marina are actually very nice and not as crowded as I perceived they may be. In fact we hardly see anyone and those we do cross paths with are very friendly and relaxed. Which is very pleasant.

We still have much to do to prepare ourselves for the move in a few months when we take narrowboat Cygnet to new territories and have a fresh adventure along the way. Relocation is still being prepped and planned. A lot of our boat related paraphernalia from Badger is still in storage at a friends and that will be coming down to us soon.

All this while juggling 2 jobs and an upcoming trip to India is a little hectic and I feel I have many balls in the air at the moment and hoping not to drop one, and at least if I do to make sure it lands somewhere soft 😃.

But unlike last time we have had time to adjust to the new boat and all it’s little foibles and slowly bring things onboard without overwhelming the small space. To slowly merge our old world and the new one and decide what really needs to come with us, what’s necessary and what is not. Streamlining ones life from all superfluous crap.

And also to plan our relocation as we will from time to time have to be away from the boat and we wol like to avoid anything like this happening.

Such a shame to see someones home end up like this. Fingers crossed 🤞 we can avoid any such thing happening. It must be devastating.

But it serves as a reminder to be safe, be prepared and to take precautions. Lessons we should carry forward into all our walks of life really.

I am feeling good, feeling positive and even though I am very tired at the moment I’m excited about many things, and optimistic.

###I do Love a bit of #monomad 😜

Back to narrowboat living, was wondering how long it would take for you to return to a lifestyle you and @millycf1976 embraced a couple of years ago.

Wishing you a great journey to India, every happy moment of life cruising the waterways once again knowing exactly what you require makes it easier.

Hi @joanstewart 😃. So true that we knew a little more about what we were after this time. Both so happy to be back on the water again. It’s quite special

Interesting post!

Are you in England per chance?

Had a friend living on one and we lost contact in the storm of these last years...

Hi @nickydee . Yes we are in the UK . Don’t suppose you remember the name of their boat? We could always keep an eye peeled 😃

Oh - I thought so. This looks like the UK for sure.

Um... no sadly. I can find her on Fakebook, I reckon.

I'll let you know. Perhaps you know her and you can convince her to start blogging around here :)
