Last Night's Sunset At Donner Lake

I almost stayed home yesterday evening... I had a bit of a belly ache, and I was tired. But the sunset forecast was looking decent so I pushed through it and took Quill dog and the camera for an after dinner hike near where I live, above Donner Lake in Truckee, California.

A wildflower foreground was the goal, it was like trying to find an easter egg. There aren't many in this particular area and it's kind of late in the season but I did finally find some brush that was blooming among the boulders. There was a lot more wind on this mountainside than expected, which made longer exposures more difficult. Even though there were some challenges with this shoot, the final result was very much worth it!

Shot on a Canon 5DS R with a 16-35mm lens, set at 23mm. A tripod was used, as well as two graduated neutral density filters on the front of the lens. The ISO was 50, the lens aperture was f/22, and it was a 20 second exposure.

Quill was a pretty good dog this trip and mostly stayed away from the tripod. We got to this location right before the color started so I didn't have time to take many photos of him. I did have time for a quick selfie though.

Thanks for looking and I hope you are all having a great day. Cheers!
