How you feel, think, and act on a daily basis is influenced by your mental health. Your capacity to handle stress, overcome obstacles, form relationships, and bounce back from life's disappointments and difficulties is also impacted.

A strong mental state goes beyond the absence of mental health issues. Being free from sadness, anxiety, or other psychological problems is only one aspect of being mentally or emotionally healthy. Mental health refers to the presence of positive traits rather than the absence of mental disorder.

Those who are mentally healthy:

  1. A feeling of contentment.
  2. Vivacity, humor, and the capacity for enjoyment.
  3. The capacity to handle stress and overcome hardship.
  4. A feeling of direction and meaning in their interactions and activities.
  5. The capacity to pick up new skills and adjust to change.
  6. A healthy balance between work and recreation, relaxation and movement, etc.
  7. The capacity to create and maintain satisfying relationships
  8. Self-assurance and strong self-esteem.

Principles of mental health

Anyone can experience mental or emotional health issues, and most people do so at some point in their lifetime. However, despite the prevalence of mental health issues, many of us do nothing to change our circumstances.

We try to brazen it out by distracting ourselves or self-medicating with drink, drugs, or self-destructive habits while ignoring the emotional signals that something is amiss. In the hopes that no one will notice, we bury our issues. We believe that eventually things will get better on their own. Alternatively, we may just give up, convincing ourselves that this is "just the way we are."
The good news is that you are not required to feel bad. You can use certain procedures to improve. Such as

  1. Avoiding foods that adversely affects the health ( Alcohol, drugs, foods with high level of chemical preservatives or hormones, sugary snacks etc.)
  2. Consume foods that boosts moods ( fatty fishes rich in omega-3s, walnuts, almonds, cashews, beans, leafy vegetables, fresh fruits etc.)
  3. Don't skimp on sleep - It matters more than you think
  4. Find purpose and meaning in life - Find everything you do worth doing well

Why we frequently disregard our mental health demands??

Even in our modern, technologically advanced environment, many of us are frequently unwilling—or unable—to treat our mental health issues. There are several causes for this, including:

  • In certain cultures, psychological and emotional problems are viewed as less important than physical ones. They are interpreted as a sign of fragility or as our fault in some way.
  • Mistakenly, some individuals think that we should be able to "snap out of" mental health issues. Particularly for men, it's common practice to suppress emotions rather than seek support.
  • We are compelled to look for quick fixes to complex issues in our fast-paced society. Rather than interacting with people in person, we obsessively monitor social media in an effort to find a connection with others.

Advice for establishing relationships

√ Make plans to meet up right away by giving a friend or loved one a call: Offer to go shopping or work out together if you both have hectic schedules. Make an effort to hold this gathering frequently.
√ Don't hesitate to get in touch with acquaintances if you don't feel like you have someone to call: Be the one to introduce yourself because many other individuals experience the same anxiety as you do while establishing new friends.
√ Leaving your computer or TV screen is a good idea: Don't ignore your real-world interactions because communication is mostly a nonverbal experience that demands you to be in close proximity to others.Bold

Spot on! I once wrote an article about mental health issues and I also arrived at the same conclusion. Mental health isn't given much attention as the physical one because society sees it as just a state of mind, a phase which anybody can get out of without making much noise about it. This is especially true in Nigeria, and sometimes mental illness is even attributed to spiritual causes, they start praying and casting out demons from someone who is mentally challenged and needs psychiatric help

The attention given towards mental health here in Nigeria is very poor, which has led to so many damages such as depression, sickness and even death. So, our ability to speak up and personally take good care of our mental health is what we should learn to possess. Our people forget the fact that not every mental situation is a spiritual attack, it might just be a word of encouragement or the sacrifice of time that the person needs at that point in time.

Thanks for stopping by, it's a pleasure to have the comment of a like-minded person 🤗

A little but productive time out with friends and family won't hurt boss 😁. Besides, physical interaction goes way beyond just meeting up, it gives you the opportunity to view and understand life from a more different angle. Thanks for stopping by 🤗

Lately, I haven't really been feeling like myself. I stopped enjoying the things I love. That state of mind can be very poisoning, even for the body. I keep telling myself to take it slow, hopefully I'd say it enough for be to start believing it
