Old Habits Are Not Forgotten But Cherished Towards Success - "Needleworks"

Hello ladies of Hive and to my readers! I have the habit of keeping precious little things which I feel worth keeping for years. It's sort of a keepsake that when I 'dig' on them especially when I do my decluttering and give them to our church's outreach program but those 'little things' are still there! Psychologically, hoarding is a sign of mental disturbance or mental disorder so they say that you tend to have that difficulty in getting rid of them.
In contrast to such too literal explanation, I consider it the other way around. You see, I learned the art of needleworks at a young age when my foster mom asked me to thread the needle for her. She used to do her sewing on weekends because she's a teacher. In addition to this, we had strict supervision in our Home Economics subject when we were in Grades 5&6 in which I always get the highest score for a job well done in sewing and embroidery. I was more inclined to learn more about needleworks to date.
Am not a weirdo. It's my passion!
That's the reason why I kept the little things with me such as cut outs of cloth, crochet threads, sewing thread including needles and hooks and the last but not the least, my pair of scissors. I always carry that box with me at young age. I was like a loner. I enjoy doing my thing alone without any disturbances. A silent surrounding tend to give me peace where I can sew something that meets my creativity or do some abstract drawings. They would say that am a bit weird or an eccentric person. Hmmm, I refuse to accept that though! I would rather say my hobby is sort of my "security blanket" in a literal way. It's being practical. I knew then that my talent in sewing could lead me somewhere. It was a challenge.
My Passion Turned Into Little Business

Photo: previous projects lately.
I made pouches and applied cross-stitching on the edgings then I twined yarns for the cords. I liked to carry handy pouches for my coins instead of wallets and I would let it hung on my sling bag when I go to school. My Muslim friends loved my pouches and that started my little business I need not ask for my allowance anymore!
Denims and mini skirts were the trending fashion during my highschool days. This gave me another idea and my imagination went wild! I would cut my denim pants and turn it into shortest short :) and the lower part will be transformed either into a denim miniskirt with embroidered stitches of the male and female symbol or a wide sling bag that would serve as a holder/cover of my Wilson tennis racket. The next day, my friends brought their cut denims for me to sew. Lol!
Fast-forward, Me as a mom
During the times when hubby was on standby in Manila while waiting for his schedule to board his ship, I would go to the rummage stalls and buy knitted blouses. I would recycle the threads for the handle and cords and leave the body, close the opening then insert the cords then presto! I already have a bag!
The stall owners discovered my creativity so they themselves asked me to make bags and pouches for them for a fee including back packs and traveling bags. They would display my creations along with their stocks for sale and some for their personal use.
They asked what else I am capable of creating and I told them that I can sew drapes and curtains, throw pillow as well as Sala Seat covers, etc. I was in demand:)
When the kids grew bigger, I decided to do office work again and worked as Board Secretary at the legislative office of the local city government. I still managed to do my sewing activities during weekends or during nighttime. I didn't depend on my allotment. I have shown my independence... It was freedom!
My Life with Steemit then Hive
Life has not been easy for us when my hubby filed a divorce in exchange for a better life abroad at the expense of our marriage.:( I stood firm on my ground to keep my sanity for the sake of my children who needed me most. I concentrated to writing online as a ghostwriter. When I write, I will forget the pain deep inside, at least for the time being. I met an acquaintance online named @fycee when cloud mining was trending way back 2016 I guess and recruited me to join Fanbox which was later named Empowr but things seemed not okay so we left and he introduced Steemit this time. He added me to the GC. I only read what has been discussed about Blockchain, blocktrade, Bitcoin, altcoins, eth, Satoshis, airdrops, etc. I didn't understand what they were talking about! I left the GC. I could still remember @otom who told to me to post my beautiful photos on steemit instead of posting on FB with no income. With Steemit, I could earn out of my posting! I said that I left the GC because I didn't understand what the platform was all about! Nevertheless, I joined Steemit and the rest is history!
My DIY tools

Those boxes contained my crafts and needleworks. I got interested in needleworks community and my gardening! I was excited in everything I do, of being appreciated and paid off for my efforts. It was lots of fun!
2-in-1
I earned more than enough when I get busy with my band uniforms (big thanks to my talent in sewing) and I post my beautiful creations on steemit then on Peakd/Hive after the hardfork. It was 2 birds in one stone! What more can you ask!

These are my tools when I do my DIYs to which I got rewards. I bought materials from my earnings too. The good thing was that I bought the materials for the band uniforms from my earnings while their teacher was busy collecting for the fees!

I made 22 band uniforms for the girls @3,500 php/set. I charged 2,500 for my labor and the rest was for the materials, all from my earnings online. In addition, I posted my finished products here with corresponding rewards from different communities! I still have some pending works during the lockdown. Hopefully, the plan to have a face to face class will be pushed through so that I will be earning in double again!:)
I would say that the things you've learned at young age will surely bring you good will and success in life.
Thank you for dropping by my page!

I salute and Congrats with your talent really no time wasted plus monetary reward.
Congratulations for being successful in all that you do getting noticed by the big players here in Hive mommy Glo! Ang gaganda ng needleworks grabeh!
Thanks dear. Thanks for believing in my prowess. You've been a part of my journey as well as @mers and the rest especially my curators. I highly appreciate the support which made my success possible.

You & Mommy @jurich60 are both inspiring from your needle works 💜
Indeed my dear. Ang gaganda rin ng mga gawa ni mader mo sa mga crochet works. Ang dami ko pang kelangan matutunan sa mga designs in crocheting.
We are on the same boat Glo., I hoard as much as I can so that there is no more space in the house...hahaha. But one of my weaknesses is fabrics. Yep, I also hoard crochet yarns, you won´t believe what I have gathered... wait and see my dear, lols. DIY pa more!
You're right! Those are only some of my huge collections, re: fabrics, unfinished projects, etc. I got 2 more jumbo balikbayan boxes. Bale Isang garbage bag nahakot ng isa pang katulong namin. Ang tuwa ng pastor namin at dalawang jumbo box ulit pinamigay ko from kids to mothers na mga damit para SA outreach program namin. Nakakataba ng puso day Mers! It's so heartwarming when you have extended your help to the less fortunate.
OO nga talaga ...you´re doing a great deed. Ako I gather allthose Kitchen things I do not need anymore as well as other clothing na talagang di na nasuot within 2-3 years, need space, sila na bahala ng so I send the balikbayan box full of things for Manila. Up to them saan nila papamigay , sa mahihirap ba na relatives sa province.
Di mas lalong maganda at napapakinabangañvpa ng iba. Am pretty sure puro magaganda yon. Kaw pa!
I love the idea of a hobby that pays you
If everyone should be so lucky ;D
Indeed my friend. Being self sufficient pays off especially in times of crisis! I even kept a sack of scraps and made pot holders out of it then my kids would sell it to our friendly neighbors. They expressed their appreciation to my kids because they're not ashamed to sell them. LoL! Afterwards, I would give them half of their income and the other half for their snacks.
I've always wanted to learn how to crochet, this is amazing!!!
You can do it dear by starting with the chains first and rest follows. Try it!
WOW, very impressive!
You have the creativity, talent, and passion...
Keep it up, @sarimanok!
What an inspiring story!
Thank you! As a mother of five, my inclination to use my talent in sewing was my best option. With that, I gradually developed my own name as a good seamstress in our place plus my artistry in handicrafts. :)
You received 1 LADY(LOH) token for posting in Ladies of Hive!
We believe that you should be rewarded for the time and effort spent in creating articles. The goal is to encourage token holders to accumulate and hold LOH tokens over a long period of time.
