How to create a character | messenger birds✨

Hello dear friends of Hive and Sketchbook community!

Today I will share with you the character design of one of the illustrations from a past post, where I told you that I would show you that character design in depth and teach you all about it.
So let's get started!
Kui ,one of our main characters, shows us a very peculiar story, where her big family full of birds will fight to become the greatest messengers of the world for the great animal diversity and why not also for humans, where together they will also fight to overcome their great fears and shut the mouths of many of the great assumptions about them.
It is this great story where big and chubby, small and weak, shy, sensitive or grumpy and very grumpy birds will struggle with their insecurities and together they will go down in history with their great abilities.
This is just a part of it, but I wanted to let you know so you can get to know them and understand more about their life.
For this occasion I was making the design of several of them, where you can visualize their appearance and a little of their personalities.
I hope you like it a lot and you can learn about character design. All this based on my experience.

En el día de hoy les compartiré el diseño de personaje de una de las ilustraciones de un post pasado, en donde les comentaba que les enseñaría aquel diseño de personaje a profundidad y les enseñaría todo acerca de ello.

Así que comencemos!
Kui una de nuestras protagonistas principales, nos muestra una historia bastante peculiar, en donde su gran familia llena de pájaros lucharán para convertirse en los más grandes mensajeros del mundo para la gran diversidad animal y por qué no también para los humanos. en donde juntos lucharán también para superar sus grandes miedos y callar la boca de muchas de las grandes suposiciones acerca de ellos.

Es esta gran historia en donde pájaros grandes y gorditos, pequeños y débiles, tímidos, sensibles o gruñones y muy malhumorados, lucharán con sus inseguridades y juntos pasarán a la historia con sus grandes habilidades.

Esto es solo una parte, pero quería que lo supieran para que los vallan conociendo y así puedan entender más acerca de su vida.

Para esta ocasión estuve realizando el diseño de varios de ellos, en donde podrán visualizar su apariencia y un poco de sus personalidades en ella.
Espero les guste mucho y puedan aprender acerca del diseño de personajes. Todo esto en base a mi experiencia.

Before we start, I wanted to tell you a little bit about the character design.
Character design is used for all kinds of stories, such as video games, comics, animated films, etc...
All this is done based on the environment, genre and story in general. This will help us to make a character design in which we can transmit, in color and appearance, part of the personality of the character and the story on which it is based.
This is only a part of what character creation means, but it is what I guide the most.
Kui is a very bold girl, she is not afraid of the new and the unknown. She is very adventurous and almost nothing intimidates her. She is very small in size, you could say she is still underage, but in the world she is in that matters the least. She is very family oriented and loves her big family full of birds, but she can also be grumpy and a bit bitter.

Antes de comenzar les quería comentar un poco acerca del diseño de personajes.

El diseño de personajes es utilizado para toda clase de historia, como pueden ser de video juegos, cómic, películas animadas etc…
Todo esto se realiza en base al ambiente, género e historia en general. Esto nos ayudará a entender y a realizar un diseño de personaje en el cual se pueda transmitir, en color y apariencia parte de la personalidad del personaje y de la historia en que se basa.

Esto es solo una parte de lo que significa la creación de un personaje, pero es, en lo que yo más guío.

Kui, es una chica muy audaz, no le teme a lo nuevo ni a lo desconocido. Es muy aventurera y casi nada la intimida. Es muy pequeña en tamaño, se podría decir que aún es de menor edad, pero en el mundo en el que está eso es lo que menos importa. Es muy familiar y ama a su gran familia llena de pájaros, pero también puede llegar a ser gruñona y un poco amargada.

To start with her design, the first thing I thought about was the style of clothing. I feel that it is one of the essential things to start designing a character. Then I think about the body type, depending on the environment and personality, the hair and facial expressions are also essential for this.
I start with a sketch, this time I do it first on a sheet of paper, I feel it's more relaxing to start drawing on paper, it connects more with the character and for some reason you feel you have more time and freedom, that's based on my point of view and experience.

Para empezar con su diseño, en lo primero que pensé es en el estilo de la ropa. Siento que es una de las cosas imprescindibles para empezar a diseñar un personaje. Ya después pienso en el tipo de cuerpo, dependiendo del ambiente y personalidad que tenga, el cabello y las expresiones de la cara también son esenciales para esto.

Ya empiezo con un boceto, en esta ocasión lo realice primero en una hoja de papel, siento que es más relajante empezar a dibujar en papel, se conecta más con el personaje y por alguna razón sientes que tienes más tiempo y libertad, eso en base a mi punto de vista y experiencia.

After having the sketch defined and clear, I start with the colors, another of the fundamental things for the creation of the character.
The setting in which this little story was based was a cold forest, mountains and cold plains, with winds and rains. The greenish and aqua blue tones with some mustard yellow helped me a lot to better visualize the environment. So those colors went hand in hand with the characters and the setting.

Después de tener definido y claro el boceto, empiezo con los colores otra de las cosas fundamentales para la creación de personaje.

La ambientación en la que se basaba esta pequeña historia se trataba de un bosque frío, montañas y llanuras frías, con vientos y lluvias. Los tonos verdosos y azul agua con algo de amarillo mostaza me ayudó mucho a poder visualizar mejor el entorno. Así que esos colores fueron de la mano con los personajes y la ambientación.

Now that I have the colors defined and placed on the character, I will start with the details. As I usually do I will use the Crayon and Crayon brush. I will be doing this until I am satisfied with the details.

Ya teniendo los colores definidos y colocados en el personaje, comenzaré con los detalles. Como suelo hacer utilizaré el pincel de Acuarela y Crayon. Esto lo estaré haciendo hasta quedar satisfecha con los detalles.

Now I will start with one of the birds, this is Topu one of the most shy and insecure birds. His great shyness and weakness has made many of his companions see him as useless and very annoying to watch. This big bird is one of the biggest and fattest, his great weight has led him to a great depression mixed with shyness. But you will see that his great features will make him the most enviable bird in the whole nation.

Ahora empezaré con uno de los pajaros, se trata de Topu unos de los pájaros más tímidos e inseguros. Su gran timidez y debilidad a hecho que muchos de sus compañeros lo vean inútil y muy fastidioso de ver.

Este gran pájaro es uno de las más grandes y gordos, su gran peso lo ha llevado a una gran depresión mezclada con timidez. Pero verán que sus grandes características lo llevarán a ser el pájaro más envidiable de toda la nación.

So to start, I will always start the sketch.
Actually I almost never draw animated animals with facial expressions, but when I tried something new I was surprised because I really like to draw them.
I tried to highlight their great features and to be able to reflect in their face part of their personality and their insecurities.

Así que para iniciar, siempre empezaré el boceto.
Realmente casi nunca dibujo animales animados y con expresiones faciales, pero al probar con lo nuevo me sorprendí porque realmente me gusto dibujarlos.

Traté de destacar sus grandes características y poder reflejar en su rostro parte de su personalidad y sus inseguridades.

For the color, I continued with the shade mentioned above. Water green and brown tones.
I liked to use a greenish tone in this great friend because the green tone transmits peace and serenity, one of the great qualities of this great friend when it comes to be with someone or talk to someone.

Para el color, seguí con la tonalidad mencionada anteriormente. Tonos verdes agua y marrones.

Me gusto poder utilizar un tono verdoso en este gran amigo ya que el tono verde trasmite paz y serenidad una de las grandes cualidades de este gran amigo a la hora de estar con alguien o hablar con alguien.

Once I have the color defined and placed in the drawing, I will continue with the details. Also using the same brush mentioned above Crayon and Crayon*.

Ya teniendo el color definido y puesto en el dibujo continuaré con los detalles. También utilizando el mismo pincel mencionado anteriormente Acuarela y Crayon*

And for one of the last friends we have *Push push one of the friends who join the hunter team, but the most appetizing game for him are the Mangos! juicy mangoes and well ripe, watery and round.
This is one of the small birds, with small wings but strong legs. This friend has some of the smallest wings, wings that have never been seen in the whole world. Wings that all his companions always worry about. But those little wings, along with his great enthusiasm for hunting round, juicy mangoes, have allowed him to fly miles and miles. Which is very worrying for the companions, because they believe that one day he will fall and die.
The problem with this friend is his great obsession with these mangoes, this obsession is believed to keep him from moving forward in life.
It is believed.

Y ya para unos de los últimos amigos tenemos a *Push push unos de los amigos que entran en el equipo de los cazadores, pero la caza mas apetitosa para él son los Mangos! mangos jugosos y bien maduros, aguados y redondos.

Este es unos de los pájaros pequeños, con alas pequeñas pero patas fuertes. Este amigo posee unas de las alas más pequeñas, alas que jamás se han visto en todo el mundo. Alas que a todos sus compañeros siempre les preocupan. Pero aquellas pequeñas alas junto con su gran entusiasmo por cazar mangos redondos y jugosos, le ha permitido volar kilómetros y kilómetros. Lo cual es muy preocupante para los compañeros, pues creen que algún día caerá y morirá.

El problema con este amigo es la gran obsesión con estos mangos, esta obsesión pues se cree que no lo deja avanzar en la vida.
Se cree.

I'll start with the sketch. I will be highlighting its small wings and its round and ripe mango always next to it. I will use the 6B pencil to make the sketch, until it is clean and ready for painting.

Empezare con el boceto. ire destacando sus alas pequeñas y su mango redondo y maduro siempre junto a el.utilizare el lapiz 6B

I'll start with the painting. I will be using quite warm colors but pulling to the cold.
colors such as pale and soft yellow and a soft orange, will highlight that great characteristic for the love towards the handles of that bird

Empezare con el pintado. Estaré utilizando colores bastante calidos pero tirando a lo frio.

Colores como el amarillo palido y suave y un naranja suave, destacara esa gran caracteristica por el amor hacia los mangos del aquel pajaro.

The details with the Watercolor and Crayon brushes to give it vividness and texture and it would be ready!

Los detalles con los pinceles Acuarela y Crayon para darle viveza y textura y estaria listo!

Already based on these characters, it would be easier to create wells and environments with them.
I really love working on this project and will continue to work on it. I still lack the creation of stage environments, which I will also be able to share with you here very soon.

Ya en base a estos personajes, sería más fácil crear poses y ambientes con ellos.

Me encanta trabajar en este proyecto y seguiré trabajando en él. Todavía me falta la creación de ambientes escénicos, que también podré compartir con ustedes aquí muy pronto.
