INTRODUCTION

Another round of the weekend Hive chess continued yesterday with the Friday's tournament hosted by @stayoutoftherz. The tournament was the 5th round of the Ninth season.

You can read about the Friday's Hive Chess events here

TOURNAMENT REPORT

The tournament was registered with 28 players with just two players not playing a single game. Hive user @tungphong, known as Blackswan21 on Lichess won the tournament again! This time finishing with 31 points with a performance of 2370+. Closely followed was the now consistent @jaki01 who came second. @samostically which is myself, with 26 points in the tournament finished 3rd.

In the picture above,we can see that black does better today again, this is now frequently seen in our Hivechess tournaments.

You can check the full tournament games here

Some regular players such as @Vjap55 was absent today.It was good to see Hive users like @anomadsoul , @schmidi play Hivechess today, I hope to see them more in our other tournaments. According to @manncpt in his Hivechess report Post he said;

We have a strong community, we can be proud on it together and invite more Hivians to join us

Congratulations to The winners And everyone who played

I found some interesting games I enjoyed, some which i made some quick Analysis on below and others which i would Analyse In my #Hivechess study during the week. Also I should be doing a game Analysis on my slow chess match against my friend @anli very soon.

INTERESTING TOURNAMENT GAMES

GAME 1

Lighteye(1701) 1-0 Zgm_samostically(2262)

@lighteye might be 1700+ Rated on Lichess but his chess understanding is really strong! Although he jokes that he always blunder alot while playing...who doesn't?

The game started with 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 g6 3.d4

Screenshot (51).png

A classical open Sicilian defense, with black using a fianchetto system with 2.g6

Black player made an opening mistake which everyone should take note.

Don't move a piece multiple times in the opening! Develop your other pieces first!

After multiple queen moves black was lost in the position below and made it worse with

Screenshot (52).png

move 10.Nxe4?? A Blunder! (Better was 10.d6, where i think black is still worse due to the lack in development)

White played 11.Qd5! Threatening 12.Qxf7

Screenshot (53).png

And as you can see,the double threat is hard to stop for black.
Black tried 11.Nd6 but 8 moves later,he resigned. Very well played game by @lighteye as he still required technique and brilliant moves to convert.
Below is the gif and pgn of the game

GAME 2

Eliaschess333(1957) vs Petreius(1970)

@eliaschess333 is one strong player that isn't often talked about, maybe because he plays very few events or maybe because of his ratings. This game was was a Grunfeld defense main line. (The Grunfeld defense is my favourite line, just behind my pet Scotch)

After move 3.Nc3 g6. We have a Grunfeld as shown below.

Screenshot (54).png

The opening was played well by both sides and it looked liked it was going to be a tough one, till yet again another important moment. White played a tricky 11.Ng5

Screenshot (57).png

As in the above picture, the f7 square for black looks sad,as three of white pieces are attacking it and there are just two defenders. But it isn't so bad right? Because an e-pawn move gives the black an extra protection via the queen on c7.

But black played 11.e6?! (11.e5, I think would be have been a better move)

The difference between those pawn moves was shown below after 12.h3! Now the bishop doesn't have escape squares and black was forced to play 12.h6

Screenshot (55).png
Image after 12.h3 h6

After a brilliant 13.Nxf7 trade initiation, white ended up two pawns up.
@petreius with the black pieces did his best to hold the position and avoided exchanges, but this could only lead to a checkmate blunder as on move 23 after white played Qc1 black played Qf6??

Screenshot (56).png

white to play and win

Thank you very much for your kind words, @samostically. It happens less and less that I play a game like this one, without a serious blunders.

Good review! @tungphong, @jaki01 and yourself are taking over these day!

BTW, look at this:

LOL. I noticed you're using here the same picture I'm using as background in my Lichess and posts. That's not something inbuilt of Lichess. You have to find the image outside of Lichess and set it as background image. Come on, Samuel, I know it's a nice picture, but I'm trying to be original and you keep borrowing all my formatting ideas. Originality is important on Hive.

Thanks, I'm glad you like the review.

That's not something inbuilt of Lichess.

You accuse me wrongly, It is a lichess background, I just wanted to switch from black. I don't really like it anyway as it is too light. I didn't find the image outside lichess, its lichess defaults background, you can check and confirm. Thanks but anyway I will go back to my dark theme.

I checked and it seems like Lichess definitely made it inbuilt. This comes as a big surprise to me because many years ago when I created my account, I set that specific image manually as the background image. It wasn't the default image back then as far as I remember. As you can see, you can change the image by providing a link to it. I have to look at the source code to verify that, though. Fortunately, Lichess is open source.

On the other hand, I'm not accusing you, LOL, but I understand that's what it might seem, because of my ignorance that it's a Lichess feature nowadays (in any case the image isn't even mine). So, to clarify: since the image is a Lichess feature, it's up to you whether to use it or not. I'm just suggesting you to have your own original style overall along with your good content.

Thanks for the clarity, I understand that you are looking out for me and I appreciate it alot.. to be honest, I don't like the background as it too transparent, I only liked it as a cover photo for the standings.

As you can see, you can change the image by providing a link to it

I will get a colourful one for the Chessbrothers event, hehehehe. Thanks for the feedback and thank you for everything.
