UV light in the germicidal range of 200-280 nm is referred to as UV-C. Scientists have found, this simple ultraviolet light kills pathogens on surfaces of fruits and vegetables. UVC is already heavily used for sterilization in the medical, food and water purification industries. All RO systems in our homes today have a UVC light sterilizing our drinking water.

Since UVC light works only on the surface and does not penetrate the surface we found it to be perfect for sanitizing our groceries, fruits & vegetables. Another little-known fact about UVC rays are that they are known to induce delayed ripening and induce anti-rot properties into fruits and veggies. Now your fresh produce might lasting longer in the refrigerator! The risk of contamination is especially higher for those who may have outsiders coming in to clean or cook for them.

PLEASE NOTE UVC IS SAFE FOR FOOD, GROCERIES AND OTHER THINGS. BUT ITS NOT A GREAT IDEA TO EXPOSE YOUR SKIN / HUMAN SKIN TO UV LIGHT FOR LONG DURATION. ALSO AVOID LOOKING DIRECTLY INTO A UV LIGHT BEAM.

While UVC based consumer, products have started to fill the shelves they have also been vanishing off them pretty quickly. However, If you are a DIY person and would prefer to solve your family’s sterilization needs on your own, we have got you covered. You can make your own UV Corner for sterilization very easily.

Imagine how convenient it would be if you had a UV sterilizing corner in your house. You can then simply leave your fruits, vegetables and groceries under the light for a few mins and voila! They are germ free. It’s the easiest way to keep Corona Virus at bay.

However, the search for the UV tech need not be difficult, its actually quite easy to set up. All you to have do is to set up an UVC tube light as an under-panel light in the kitchen or any other corner of the house. Simply set it up over a slab. And the corner can serve as your sanitation corner. However, one must be careful not to confuse it with party UV lights. The light needs to be in the 200-280 nm bandwidth. They are germicide UVC lights. They can be easily ordered online. You can buy the light from the link below. I have already done the research for you on this one. Philips has a tubelight that creates UVC germicide Light in the required range. You may have other brands too. Below is an Amazon Link of the same. You may need to go to your local amazon site source it.

Simply install it as an under panel in the kitchen. Get a ready made frame that fits the setup. Usually standard CFL for the bulb and tubelight frames for the long tube should work. It did in my case :)
