Cuando me encuentro con mis excompañeras de trabajo me preguntan porque sigo trabajando y aunque todos sabemos lo difícil que se puso la situación en Venezuela, les digo que no me hallo todavía metida totalmente en la casa. Me siento activa y aunque me canso un poco más que antes, mi sobrina y mi hijo me tratan como reina en el trabajo.

Aunque mi hermana era la enciclopedia viviente de la empresa todo lo recordaba, casi todo lo sabía sobre los repuestos, reparaciones, ahora solo quedo yo para pasar mi poca experiencia.

Aunque mi área profesional es educación especial en la que trabaje 18 años y tuve que retirarme para atender la empresa familiar. Ahora trato de pasar los conocimientos a la generación de relevo.

No me anoto en renunciar todavía en la empresa familiar, estoy allí en un ladito ayudando en lo que pueda. En mi silla tipo poltrona y con los clientes saludando al entrar y comentando yo la hacia ya retirada. Y yo les anoto todavía no me voy a meter en mi casa a solo cuidar las matas. Sigo siendo una chica multitareas y mientras pueda acudir cada mañana a trabajar, aquí estaré todo lo que pueda.

Pero esa es una verdad el dinero de la jubilación en Venezuela no alcanza para vivir, ni para las pocas medicinas que tengo que tomar para mantener mi salud equilibrada.

When I run into my former coworkers, they ask me why I'm still working, and although we all know how difficult the situation has become in Venezuela, I tell them that I haven't completely shut myself away from home yet. I feel active, and although I get a little more tired than before, my niece and son treat me like a queen at work.

Although my sister was the company's walking encyclopedia—she remembered everything, knew almost everything about spare parts and repairs—now it's just me left to pass on my limited experience.

Although my professional field is special education, where I worked for 18 years, and I had to retire to take care of the family business, now I'm trying to pass on my knowledge to the next generation.

I haven't signed up to quit the family business yet; I'm still there, helping out wherever I can. In my armchair, greeting customers as they come in and commenting that I think I'm already retired. And I tell you all, I'm not going to shut myself away at home just to take care of the plants yet. I'm still a multitasker, and as long as I can get to work every morning, I'll do everything I can here.

But the truth is, retirement money in Venezuela isn't enough to live on, not even for the few medications I need to take to maintain my health.
