Wedding moments!!

As I told you in my last post, a good cousin of mine got married yesterday. Of course my camera was there to capture a lot of beautiful moments and here I am today sharing a few more wedding customs of my area.

The friends of the bride help her get dressed -I missed that part, as I had to get Little Man to sleep his afternoon nap and I didn't manage to get ready on time and get to the bride's house early enough. Then, the Best Man or Maid of Honor come and bring the bridal shoes on a tray decorated with rice (that symbolizes prosperity in a marriage) and koufeta candies (small sugar candies filled with chocolate - we use them as wedding and baptism favors). The Best Man or Maid of Honor must help the bride wear the shoes by putting banknotes inside the first one. There used to be times when the shoe was filled with money before the bride would said "Stop, ok, it fits", but nowadays they usually stop after the first couple of banknotes. Again, just like the money people pin on the wedding dress, this money goes to the newly married couple as a gift.

Once the bride is ready and has both her shoes on 😝 it's time for dance! The bride leaves her parents home as people throw rice (not cooked) at her and in the end they smash the bowl behind her. The bride starts to dance with the family and friends to the sounds of traditional musical instruments (I should mention here that both the bride and the groom are physical education teachers who happen to teach traditional dances and they are into tradition a lot, which explains why they follow a lot of our local customs).

Since the church was just a block away, we all walked there or better DANCED! The drum and the accordion led the way and the bride followed dancing with the rest of us behind and around her!!

Outside the church when the musicians stopped, a group of guests sang a traditional wedding song as the bride slowly approached the groom. It was a really beautiful moment!!

Best of wishes George and Angela!!

May your life together be a happy road, filled with beautiful moments, love, prosperity, luck and many many other blessings!! ❤️❤️

Greek weddings are lots of fun. I can actually dance several of them properly.

What a wonderful post. This one and the previous post are rich introductions to tradition. These are the things that hold us together as family, and as people. Just as you are a vessel of culture for Little Man, this couple has become a link between the previous generation and the generation to come. It's not the past and the future-- it's an unbroken chain.

There is something to be said for village life, where traditions are more likely to be honored. I wish this couple a happy, prosperous future. They certainly have a great beginning🦋
