Visiting Barinas Central Town
Greetings! Today I’m here to remember with you my visit to Barinas, home state of my mother's family, a few months ago. It is always nice to return to these places full of so many memories and beautiful moments from childhood, when we used to go there more often.
On this particular occasion I share with you some pictures of my walk through the Bolivar Square of the city. It is worth mentioning that Barinas is the name of both the state and the capital city and I tell you that this is a cozy and quite quiet city in the Venezuelan plains with a hot climate, but at the same time pleasant, with many days of bright sunshine.
That day I was with my mom and my dear nephew who served as a tour guide, since he knows this area of the city better. I remember that in our childhood trips to Barinas we used to visit mainly outskirts areas, such as rivers and fields, and not so much the center of the city.
As is common in Bolivar squares the central monument is an equestrian statue of the liberator Simon Bolivar. This particular monument caught my attention because of its great height and size. The square has green areas and trees that provide shade and coolness, which is very pleasant especially on the hottest days; it also has benches for visitors to rest.
In the background we can see the cathedral of Nuestra Señora del Pilar (Our Lady of Pilar), patron saint of Barinas, a beautiful colonial style structure with a large clock tower and its typical bells that ring every hour and also announce the time of mass. During my visit this church was closed. Nearby I noticed the House of Culture and the Palace of the Marquis of Pumar.
