Rejilla decorativa/ Decorative grid 💗😍

Hello, gente ¿qué tal todo? Ayer no pasé por el blog porque fue un día bastante ocupado, pero ya estoy de vuelta y con un proyecto manual bien sencillo y súper em tendencia para la habitación de Miranda. Se trata de una rejilla decorativa que puede ubicar en cualquier parte de su habitación para exhibir algunos de sus artículos de colección, como photocards, llaveros, polcos y fotografías familiares también (aunque seguro pone sólo a sus coreanos 🤣)

Hello everyone, how are you all doing? I didn’t pop by the blog yesterday as it was quite a busy day, but I’m back now with a really simple and super trendy DIY project for Miranda’s bedroom. It’s a decorative grid that she can put anywhere in her room to display some of her collectables, such as photocards, key rings, figurines and family photos too (though I’m sure she’ll only put her Korean ones up 🤣)

Estas rejillas cómo les digo están en tendencias sobre todo en habitaciones de adolescentes y jovencitos, ya que las utilizan para exhibir artículos de colección o para tener a la mano algunas cositas que desean tener siempre presente. En el caso del mundo de las k-popper se utilizan muchísimo para exhibir photocards o cualquier merch que tengan sobre sus grupos favoritos, y por supuesto en el caso de mi hija será para eso básicamente, además de exhibir algunas cositas de anime que también le encantan.

Aunque estas rejillas se pueden encontrar en el mercado la verdad es que en la isla no las he visto y sé que puedo pedirlas por mercado libre, pero también las puedo crear yo misma y fue lo que decidí hacer ya que definitivamente me resultan muchísimo más económico, así que, por aquí les comparto el paso paso por si desean elaborarlas en casa.

As I said, these shelves are all the rage, especially in teenagers’ and young adults’ bedrooms, as they use them to display collectables or keep handy a few bits and bobs they want to have close at hand. In the world of K-pop fans, they’re used a lot to display photocards or any merch they have of their favourite groups, and of course, in my daughter’s case, that’s basically what it’ll be for, as well as displaying a few anime bits and bobs that she also loves.

Although these shelves are available on the market, the truth is that I haven’t seen them on the island, and I know I could order them online, but I can also make them myself, which is what I decided to do as it’s definitely much cheaper. So, here’s a step-by-step guide in case you’d like to make them at home.

Paso a paso/ Step by step

Para la elaboración de este proyecto, lo primero que hice fue cortar los palitos de altura, y para esto decidí cortar solamente la punta, dejándolos de 28 centímetros cada unoesto, y esto lo hice con ayuda de la tenaza, y para que las puntas me quedaran bien prolijas utilice una lima de uñas y las lijé tanto en la punta como por los lados.

Para cada rejilla vamos a necesitar 16 palitos de brocheta.

To make this project, the first thing I did was cut the skewers to size, and to do this I decided to trim just the tips, leaving them each 28 centimetres long. I did this using a pair of pliers, and to ensure the tips were nice and neat I used a nail file to smooth them down, both at the tip and along the sides.

For each grid, we will need 16 skewers.

Una ves tenía todos los palitos cortados y lijados procedí a pintarlos, y para ello utilicé una esponja pequeña, y en este punto quiero hacer un paréntesis, porque en la mayoría de los tutoriales que he visto arman primero la rejilla y luego la pinta, pero la verdad es que yo hice una así en un primer intento y me pareció que quedó horrible ya que se notaba mucho la pega, además de las marcas de la pintura, y como saben yo siempre busco el mejor acabado posible, así que decidí volver a hacerla pintando los palitos antes de unirlos.

Once I’d cut and sanded all the sticks, I set about painting them, using a small sponge. I’d like to pause here for a moment, because in most of the tutorials I’ve seen, people assemble the grid first and then paint it, but the truth is that I did it that way on my first attempt and thought it looked awful, as the glue was very noticeable, as were the paint marks. And as you know, I always aim for the best possible finish, so I decided to start again by painting the sticks before joining them together.

En cuanto estuvieron secos, lo que hice fue tomar cuatro palitos de altura que serían los que formarían el marco y estos los dividí en cuadritos de 4 cm cada uno, y para ello utilicé la regla y un lápiz.

As soon as they were dry, I took four tall sticks to form the frame and divided them into 4-centimetre squares, using a ruler and a pencil to do so.

Con los 4 pali
tos listos el siguiente paso fue pegarlos justo en las esquinas con la pistola de silicón para crear el marco, y una vez que estuvieron bien fijados continué con el siguiente siguiente paso que fue colocar todos los palitos verticales.

With the four sticks ready, the next step was to stick them firmly into the corners using the hot-glue gun to create the frame, and once they were securely in place, I moved on to the next step, which was to position all the vertical sticks.

Finalizado este paso llegó el turno de pegar los palitos horizontales y en este caso como necesitaba fijarlos en cada una de las varillas verticales decidí marcar todos los palitos para poder poner en cada uno un punto de silicón, no solo para que quedaran derechos, sino para que pudiesen sostener el peso de lo que Miranda decida colocar en la rejilla.

Once this step was complete, it was time to attach the horizontal sticks. As I needed to secure them to each of the vertical rods, I decided to mark all the sticks so that I could apply a dot of silicone to each one – not only to ensure they sat straight, but also so that they could support the weight of whatever Miranda decides to place on the rack.

En este punto ya está listo nuestro proyecto de hoy, y la verdad es que quedó bastante genial y se nota muchísimo la diferencia con respecto al que había realizado primero, por eso si desean un acabado prolijo les recomiendo que no se salten este paso y pinten los palitos de altura antes de pegarlos porque la verdad es que el acabado es completamente diferente y, por supuesto, algo muy importante, es que deben asegurarse de pintarlos muy bien antes de pegarlos para que no tengan que retocar una vez que estén pegados, ya que esto definitivamente va a dañar el acabado.

At this point, today’s project is finished, and to be honest, it’s turned out really well – you can really see the difference compared to the one I made first. so if you want a neat finish, I recommend you don’t skip this step and paint the vertical sticks before gluing them down, because the finish really is completely different. And, of course, one very important thing is that you must make sure to paint them thoroughly before gluing them down so that you don’t have to touch them up once they’re in place, as this will definitely ruin the finish.

Como pueden ver la verdad es un proyecto bastante sencillo, aunque les confieso que es un poquito tedioso pintar los palitos de altura, sobre todo en mi caso que quiero que todo quede lo mejor posible, entonces se lleva tiempo, ya que decidí lijar entre capa y capa de pintura para que quedaran sin ningún tipo de marcas, pero la verdad es un proyecto sencillo y que vale muchísimo la pena hacerlo en casa, así que espero que se pongan manos a la obra.

As you can see, it’s actually a fairly simple project, although I must admit that painting the vertical slats is a bit tedious, especially in my case as I want everything to look as good as possible, so it takes time—since I decided to sand them down between coats of paint to ensure there were no marks left—but it really is a simple project and well worth doing at home, so I hope you’ll get stuck in.
