GOLD-DUST WEEVIL // A Tiny Jewel of Nature Captured in the Fascinating World of Macro Photography

Introducing the Gold-Dust Weevil, which belongs to the Curculionidae family. From a distance, this beetle appears to have yellow as its main color, but when we look at it from a closer distance, we can see several other colors, such as green. What makes this insect interesting is its elongated body, and on its wing covers, we can see fine, shimmering scales in yellow or metallic green. This is where one of its unique characteristics can be seen, because its entire shell is covered with millions of microscopic, shining scales, making this insect look as if it has been sprinkled with pure gold dust.

This beetle often spends its time on trees. They can fly, but they usually fly only for relatively short distances. They are also not too wild or aggressive, so once we manage to find them, we can easily capture their beauty through photography.
However, we should think twice before touching this insect because the golden scales on the beetle's wing covers can easily come off and stick to our hands. However, according to the information I know, this powder is not harmful or toxic to human skin and can be easily cleaned with water and soap.

And this is also what I did at that moment. I was curious and tried to touch its shell, which eventually caused my hand to become covered with the golden scales from this beetle. At that time, the beetle did not fly away, but it kept moving from the plants down to the grass, and this was an opportunity that I could not let slip away. So, I continued trying to capture the beauty and uniqueness of this beetle.

This beetle also has two very unique antennae with enlarged tips that resemble small clubs. They are black in color, but they can still be clearly seen among its yellow coloration.
The most interesting part was when this beetle began climbing onto my hand. It kept moving as if it were lost. I let the beetle continue walking across my hand while I kept photographing it.

I was not worried at all while this beetle was moving around on my hand, because this beetle is completely harmless to humans. It has a very small mouthpart and does not have a stinger like wasps and bees. At that moment, I also tried to photograph this beetle from various different angles, and the most unique and challenging part was when I tried to photograph it from the front.

Perhaps this beetle felt disturbed when I tried to photograph it from the front, because not long after, this beetle immediately tried to fly away.

A rare and breathtaking sight unfolded right in front of my macro lens when this initially motionless weevil suddenly spread its wing covers wide. At first, this moment caught me by surprise because I did not know what it was doing, It turned out that this beetle was opening its wing covers wide to prepare for flight. In this shot, we can clearly see the intricate, transparent membranous wings revealed from underneath as it prepares to take off into the air.
