Yes, We Still Want To Move to Tassie: LOH #118

Travelling here in Tassie for the last few weeks, and twice last year, have had many people ask us if we were still planning on moving here. Good question. Last time we were almost ready to sell the house, but then my son and his girl got pregnant and interest rates sky rocketed and it didn't seem the right time. Plus, we do live in quite a nice place anyway, and Tassie would always be there for holidays.

But the more we come here, the more we want to move here. The question is though is where, though the when is clearer - likely in three to five years time, although sooner isn't off the table.

Sometimes I think the best option is just to sell the house and live full time in our Defender. Same cabin, different views whenever we move camp. But that's not totally feasible as we get older.

I adored Marrawah, on the west coast. It feels like a spirit home to me, and of course there's surf. But I'm not overly keen on the closest towns and the northern part of Tassie. Still, we dream about a place like this, overlooking the sea. I mean, this guy paddles out to the surf from his own private beach.

Then the east coast, although beautiful, is full of retired people and tourists, though the surf can be good and the weather milder.

Bruny Island is definitely a big yes, although isolated. I loved the wilder parts of the island down near Cloudy Bay, and there is surf there too. However, if we still need to work, the commute would be trickier. Still, it's on top of our list.

Somewhere near Woodbridge, Kettering or Snug is definitely a big yes. It's close to Hobart but also other schools in the area, near the ferry for Bruny, and close to the Huon Valley which we also loved. Even the Huon Valley area would be great. It gets more rainfall there so is good for growing vegetables as well and the community seems good and a lot more like minded, alternative folk.

So there it is - we have narrowed down WHERE we want to live and why - it's quieter, very beautiful, close to nature, wild, friendly and clean. Now we just have to figure out the finances and the WHEN.

Still, no hurry. It'll happen when the universe wills it so.

Sounds like you found some ideal spots for a home in Tasmania. The decision will definitely take some time especially when there are things to consider. All the best😉

I guess the more one lives the more you get into one of two things. Either you want to stay in your place and leave thing untouched or get out of there and keep going places.

I bet that's because you have traveled a lot and there's a drive to keep going about.

Your descriptions sound lovely. They place looks awesome. Living in a truck doesn't sound bad if it's comfortable.

I think once you get a taste for travel you get bored staying put. I think we're that kind of couple that are fed by adventures too. I think it'll be more comfy when we get a pop top but it was pretty good anyway!

I went to live in TAS for 1 year and ended up staying 15 year's 😁. So glad I spent those 15 year's in Tasmania and I can understand why you are keen to move there as Tasmania has that effect many people.

Wow moving to Tassie would be epic. I've lived my whole adult life in cities and now live in the country. I miss the city more than I thought I would. Just the conviences. Good restuarants. Good markets. But I love it here. I don't know if I could make it further out in the boonies though. But Tassie is beautiful.

Oh you know one of the reasons we chose where we are is that it's only an hour from Melbourne and half an hour from next closest city, for all your reasons. But we hardly ever go there, and to be honest, I'd prefer life without all that these days. Nothing like a twice yearly trip to the city wouldn't fix.

Beautiful place, congrats on becoming a Grammy, it will be tough to leave your grand baby they steal your heart ❤️
I like the 3-5 year plan, thinking ahead is really smart.
Good luck, enjoy Tassie

There you go! Why not live there for a while... six months to a year! That would be fun!!!

Sometimes timing is everything, but I belive when time is right we can do anything and get anywhere we want 😉 and you sure found a Golden spot and Lucky to be able to come back there and revisit. I hope you get to move there soon and that you get to wake up every Day to that amazing view 😍 Wouldn't mind that myself 😁

Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful weekend. Cheers 🌸
