New Ferry Across The Bass Strait - Here we Come Tassie!!!
After so much hard work preparing the Defender, finally we were headed to Tasmania. We left home at 5.45 to drive to Geelong to get the ferry. I was driving my best mates van as I was taking it to Tassie for her, where she lives - she had bought it from her parents as her Dad lost his licence as he has dementia.

The Spirit of Tasmania ferry used to be at Port Melbourne, but it's now moved, which is great for us as it's much closer! That meant we left a little later which I hated, as we weren't at front of the queue.

Nevermind! I got a quick chance to go to the loo after the security check. There's a whole heap of things you can't bring to Tassie like fruit and veg!

There's a cafe and toilets in the terminal which was a relief as those two morning coffees can really affect me, haha!

The worst thing about getting the ferry is seat fomo. We ended up with seats in my favourite corner, in the quiet area. I get a little seasick sometimes if I'm at the front. Besides, I can always go on the deck to see the sea!

The day was passed reading, watching Netflix, and staring out to sea. There is a buffet with a pile your plate high lunch, we went halvies as it's quite expensive.
I had been clever enough to pack muesli, mango and coconut yoghurt for our breakfast though!
The ferry arrives in Devonport about 6.30 pm, though you don't really get off until 7.30. We always stay at Mersey Bluff caravan park as it's a great spot by the sea and with lovely owners. We get to have a shower in the morning, pop to a big supermarket for fruit and veggies, then we can get on our way toward the wild west coast.
With Love,

Lovely ferry. Nothing like the ones around here which haven't had any maintainance in years.
Oh yes it's quite the investment to link the states.
It sure is. How would you rate the service of that ferry?
It's excellent. Timing is exact, it's clean, well organised etc.
Well, it's good to know things work around the globe. 😂
You have done such an amazing job on the landy !

I adore Tassie too. Really love it. Have been here for a week now .. the posts are a week behind and I've stopped writing at all really so I can soak it up! On ferry to Bruny now.

I think you had an amazing experience.
Exciting stuff. Let the journey begin. Ferry rides are fun. I've taken the ferry to Victoria Island in British Columbia, Canada. But thats a short hop only 90 minutes.
Enjoy your trip! :^)

I was wondering how long the ferry ride is. Now I understand it's a whole day.
Seat fomo, haha. I can imagine.
