In Which I Am No Longer Solo, Camping at Lime Bay and Walk to Lagoon Beach🦘

My baby is here! It's funny, since I've been on this two week solo camping trip in Tassie, people keep being amazed, surprised and somewhat worried that I'm on my own. Woman camping solo seems either a dangerous or strange thing to do, or maybe people don't like their own company. I've loved every minute of it and could have done it for longer, but was also happy to pick my husband up from Hobart on Sunday. Sunday was an awesome day - I spent the morning picking rosehips at Marion Bay and then a surf at Dodges Ferry - small, but clean and very warm.

We headed pretty much straight to the Tasman Peninsula after a nights stay at Dunalley. The morning was awesome - we had a proper English fry up out the back of the van and a visit to a gallery and fresh food store at Nubeena. I'm already in love with the area and I could see myself living here. But we say that kinda thing a lot when we travel.

The area is quite historic as it was the source of a penal colony. Port Arthur is most famous but also because it was the source of a horrendous gun massacre some years ago, resulting in a gun amesty in Australia and our current gun laws. I don't like going there and find it spooky, so we went another direction to Lime Bay instead and a fantastic camp ground where we found a perfect spot with a bay view and marsupials.

Jamie has been working hard so we spent the day relaxing, but still managed an awesome walk to Lagoon Bay, some 4 km return.

The walk was lovely, taking us through very varied bushland with wombat evidence and glimpses of the sea, and many birds - it would be a twitchers paradise and we spotted a rare pink robin.

Once the bush cleared we ended up on some amazing white dunes which lead down to a deserted white sanded beach with not a single footprint on it. We could see parts of the mainland and Bruny Island in the far distance. It was truly stunning.

After that it was time to light the fire, cook dinner, have a stout and watch the sun go down.

I have to admit it was nice to have someone to share an adventure with.

Wonderful day @riverflows

You have thrown away all the troubles and only came there with all the happiness. Truly a situation full of freedom.

There's only one pressure when you're there, which is the kangaroo stares that aren't happy with your presence. The rest, it's all yours and stay alert because the kangaroo will come to invite his friends to visit you.

Haha we get these little marsupials like kangaroo which I hate because they look at me funny and are a bit.. I don't know, I think they are like zombie roos and I hate them, but everyone thinks they are cute!!? 😂

It turns out that you and the kangaroo hate each other 😂

Is it just because they have a small pouch in front of their stomach, they are considered cute?
I think they will be funny when they kick us in the stomach with their strong legs..

Oh yes that's the big ones. The tiny ones are like big rats... Ew

Haha the roos at camp grounds dont mind so much as they know they can steal food, which isn't good for them but they still manage! Same with the pademelons and possums. At night you have to be careful not to leave food out or they will definitely steal it!

They only ask for your leftovers, sir.
Leave a little as your taxes enter their territory. You definitely don't mind, do you?

That is awesome! Women can sure go camping alone, why not hehe. Glad your husband joined you. It is more fun to have company especially when hiking. The place is gorgeous! Enjoy your camping🌞

It's nice with him there, for sure, but I sure adored solo travelling and wish I could do it more!

Maybe you can be solo again when he becomes busy hehe. It must be nice to have more "me" time while you travel around🌞

That sounds like one hell of an adventure! It is way better to have your husband there to share it with but doing it on your own for a while is probably amazing in its own right!

You know, I prefer travelling on my own mostly. I love my hubs but like my own space and the ability to sleep! We don't always sleep well together and at home sleep in separate beds!!

Haha yeah we are sleeping in separate beds right now as well but mostly because I sleep in the same room as the little man. He’s almost out of the stage thankfully but we’ve co-slept since birth. It’s tough because I enjoy sleeping in the same bed as my wife but at the same time I also sleeping next to the little man! We have separate beds of course but he’s a snuggler lol

For trips though we always go together!

Nice to see the two of you together again, although I can totally understand the feeling perfectly happy on your own part ( most of the time ).

Stunning pictures, looks pretty idyllic.

I like that metal stove planted in the sand. I can almost smell the food in that pan ;<)

Big hug!

That camp stove is seriously one of the best things I have ever bought!! You don't get smoke in your eyes And can cook on top of it. The flue fits inside the barrel and the legs fold up so it packs down small.

I like that you showed a not very touristy place with wild beaches, the organization of the place caught my attention and that tractor decorated with flower pots, that curious kangaroo, I'm sure you had some quiet moments here.

I much prefer quieter places. This was in a harder to reach location and further away so It was quieter. That old tractor is lovely hey?

Travelling with a van and camping with it, is one of my biggest dreams :)
I'm happy to see you enjoying it!

The balance between alone time and reconnection is tricky and yet oh-so-sweet when we get it right. I've always been more of a solo traveler so it's a challenge for me to travel with someone else... but have come t appreciate it too, just differently.

The thing that is soooo cool about Tassie is the incredible diversity of landscape and terrain in such a tight and small geographic space.

This looks so beautiful and wonderful that you can go camping alone as a woman in Tasmania. I'm writing to you from South Africa, where we definitely have some beautiful places to see and camp at, but it probably wouldn't be safe to do it alone unfortunately.

With that said we do have some wonderful multi day hiking trails (Otter Trail, Whale Trail, etc) that are located in restricted National Parks and are safe.

Wow that was so nice! I love the way you casually don't even mention the kangaroo just saying "hi". 😄

Are they that common to Aussies?

I imagine the scenery:
"Look, a marsupial"
"Nah it's just another damn roo trying to steal my sandwich!"

Look people do get excited about them but I'm pretty blase about them. Thats a wallaby by the way 😁 ... And then there are pademelons too...they kinda freak me out when I go to wee in the middle of the night and they jump about in the dark. Possums too. There's no real predators in Tassie.. on the mainland there are foxes.
