"Klonk on the Brain (HiveBloPoMo #16)" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
The world's still ticking along... I've convinced my body to heal itself a little bit, but my new Low-ku poem is inspired by the physical recovery process. (I'm also full of shit, if you hadn't guessed that already! Ha!) Here's some culture:
Back bones do bad things
Society is to blame
Learn to fool your friends!
(It doesn't have to make sense... In fact some of my favorites that I've done are the ones that are barely even written in actual words!)
Anywho, let's move on to some ARTZ!
[Felt pen, paint pen, brush pen, liner pen, and colored pencil on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments and color.] Some people can't help but share secrets. Like living loud-speakers! The trouble is when the secrets aren't verified---or worse, when they are...
"Confessions (I Hate Flying)"
[Liner pen on notebook page with digital embellishments and color.] There are things about me that bring me great discomfort, pain, or even shame. One of them is my highly irrational, but I am COMPLETELY terrified of flying. I hate the airport. I hate being around so many people. I'm (sadly) very uncomfortable around police officers (guilty conscience? I've never even been arrested, so this one is strange to me.) And, because of my overactive, neurotic imagination, I always feel like something horrible is going to happen on the plane...during take-off or in the air or on landing.... I hate flying... (The sigil I drew was supposed to help. I don't believe in magick, but I DO believe in psychology...and my mentality is deeply affected by magick. Isn't that bizarre?) So many confessions in just one drawing!
"The Social Critic"
[Crayon and pencil on notebook page with digital embellishments.] His mouth is huge, and he certainly has a hard time keeping it shut. He'll tell you EXACTLY how he feels about everything, whether you've asked for his opinion or not. (Maybe we should put a curse on him until he goes away... You've got to let him KNOW he's cursed, though, for the curse to work, so you'll need to talk to him at least one more time. Sorry!)
[Crayons, felt pen, and mixed media collage with digital embellishments and color.]
This is how we do it! When making stuff, particularly with my granddaughter, we get all kinds of stuff involved. Recycled materials, found pieces, collage bits, and so on will all go into a given work, so the creative process (for us) starts in the physical world. Eventually, however, the image will get sucked (Tron style) into the COMPUTER WORLD where (through magick that I don't understand) the piece will be transformed into a specifically and distinctly DIGITAL work! Yo!
P.S. - WEIRD! (A look behind the scenes within the scene!)
[Metallic marker on paper with digital embellishments and color.] This little guy is some kind of monster (but he ALSO might be a symbol or sign, perhaps for an ancient curse. I'm not sure...)
"Mutant Bat Demon"
[Liner pen on notebook page with digital embellishments and color.] For Hive Blog Post Moth (November), I've been writing a new post every day of the month on my Hive blog. Because I'm angry at myself and feel I must be punished, I've decided to force myself to write a new haiku poem every day, as well. Actually, in my case, I write "Low-ku," which is a poem in the haiku format (5 then 7 then 5 syllables), but intentionally bad, nonsensical, or weird---low-brow, if you will. (Even if you won't! Ha!) This note to myself (which is no longer true...oh, wait, it's true again) will be true every morning when I wake up---until December 1st!
At least the bat demon thing looks pretty cool, right?
P.S. - Bad poetry is an art!
[Felt pen, crayon, and liner pen on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments and color.] Five Arms was a monster (a "mutant," technically), but he was also a Monster Hunter---cuz he was a serious jerk. (Leave those poor, defenseless monsters alone, you jerk!) The bastard was eventually taken out by a critter he thought was going to be a pushover---a certain psychic bunny... We're all kinda glad that old Five Arms is gone, but you know...he supposedly had a son...
"Extra Occult Flavor Candy"
[Liner pen on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments and color.] The open eye... The watching eye... The benevolent eye... It sees and it knows...
[Digital drawing created with a free app on my phone.] This is a Good Morning Creative Commons starter kit! Take this image and do with it what you will! Color it, glitch it, cut it up, mint and sell your remixes (as long as your remixes are also CC!) Go forth and spread the blanket!
That's some stuff, right? A little bit of art---some hidden philosophy---and a healthy chunk of nonsense! A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, I ate a bowl of icecream, and it was awesome. Later!
