"Bursting with Freakishness" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

Happiness is a warm FELT PEN... Or something. Maybe. I don't know.

It's Sunday, which means I have the next couple of hours FREE to work on arts, but it's also been three days since my last compilation post. Jeepers. Time is like a hand-grenade! (I'm sure you agree...)

Let's see some CReATIVe WORKS!!!

"Unaccepted" by RFY (HF)

unaccepted.png

[Felt pen, crayon, and metallic marker on construction paper with digital embellishments and color, and severe moshing!] Cosmic radiation blasts Capt. Tiggs, penetrating the ship, his helmet, and his skull! The electro-magnetic network of cells, dendrites, and neurons that makes up his mind and consciousness are engulfed...and TRANSFORMED by the experience. What comes back from this trip through the outer atmosphere is almost NOT Capt. Tiggs... Or, to put it more correctly, it's MORE THAN Tiggs! ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Corn Cob Pipe" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

corn cob pipe.png

[Ballpoint pen on notebook page with digital embellishments and color.] Poor Bunny is seeing freaky things. Words swirl around the room, flapping like bat wings. The floor shimmies and shakes. The sun is spinning like a pinwheel in the sky. (No more caffeine for the day!!!) ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Ghost Sailor on the Nightmare Sea" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

ghost sailor on the nightmare sea.png

[Crayon and felt pen on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments and color.] As the ghost sailor treks across the horrifying waters, it encounters the worst nightmare of all: The Dreaded Spa'am Sea-Serpent!!! BEWARE!!! ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Notclock (Learning Method)" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

notclock (learning method).png

[Crayon and felt pen on construction paper with digital embellishments and color.] Notclock has been studying deep breathing and meditation techniques, and he's just started hearing what he thinks might be TELEPATHIC communications from other psychonauts... (Kinda scary, actually!!!) ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Legacy (Of Strange)" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

legacy (of strange).png

[Felt pen, colored pencil, crayon, and ultra fine point Sharpie on paper with digital embellishments and color.] How have YOU stained the universe? My contributions to the VOID are candy colored and nonsensical, and I feel pretty good about that! ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Ghost in the Sun" by RFY (HF) & FEH (TT)

ghost in the sun.png

[Oil pastel, colored pencil, and felt pen on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments, drawing, and color.] I enjoy collaborating with my granddaughter, particularly because of her wildness and ability to deliver surprising strokes and color gestures. Love it. My contributions are the more standard FIGURATIVE elements. I think we make a solid team! ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool) & Felicity Echo Hanson (Toddler Terror)

"Unfolded" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

unfolded.jpg

[Ballpoint pen on notebook page with minor digital color tweaking.] Hidden deep in my notebook are a number of strange, sometimes quite shy, creatures. Someday, I hope someone gets ahold of my journals who is PROPERLY TRAINED to deal with and categorize these bizarre entities... (Will it be you?) ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

LIZARD LAWYERS (my new band's name) Freewrite for killing time...

My brain is confused. The thoughts are all fragments, echoes, snippets from movies, verses from old New Wave songs, half-remember concepts from texts that I've read, distractions, fears... (I wonder if EVERYONE is like this???) My journals are a fairly accurate encapsulation of this activity... Here's a couple days worth of notes:

+++++++++++++

4 MAY 2023

Thunder + Lightning! It's raining and flashing and rumbling outside. I think we'll stay inside the house today... Bunch of yuck junk.

I think what I need, lately, is a sketch pad, instead of a lined notebook... [I'm talking about paper here, not digital equipment.] I wonder if I have any left in the bedroom... Maybe. I'll go look and grab my computer while I'm looking...

[Notice, once I grabbed the laptop, I stopped WRITING in my notebook. Writing is thinking... (See Peter Elbow for more on this theory.) If I sit with my journal and a pen for long enough, STUFF comes out!]

+++++++++++++

5 May 2023

So... I've been thinking about information systems lately, and how the monetary value is almost irrelevant to the usefulness of the system. [A blockchain that has "gone to zero," but that still has nodes functioning can be used to store and retrieve information!]

For a system to be useful to a CREATIVE community, it needs to be able to "HOLD" creative works (images, words, video, audio, etc.) It needs to be fast enough to mitigate (too much) frustration, and it needs for the materials held within it to be shareable...

All kinds of social media platforms are currently used by art communities for sharing creative works. I appreciate TEZOS (the blockchain) for sharing art, not only for the storage and shareability, but because I can SELL through the chain, as well...

---Physical transmission: mail / galleries... [Museums, personal collections, art shows, conventions... You get it.] [Requires PHYSICAL PRESENCE of both art and audience.]
---Radio / t.v. transmission [Has a large potential audience, but it typically ONE WAY COMMUNICATION.]
---Digital transmission: social media / internet [TWO WAY COMMUNICATION, but because of the QUANTITY of material being exchanged, it can be difficult for work to get noticed.]

Yabba dabba doo!

Why folks create isn't as important to me as the fact THAT they ARE CREATING. I am pro participation.

Experimentation is important AND fun - and being able to experiment without fear of "messing up" is the key to ENJOYING creative acts. Novelty...

Twitter, Tumblr, Discord, Telegram, Ello, Blogger, WordPress, Hive, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Mastadon, Bluesky, Nostr, WhatsApp, SnapChat, newsgroups, Substack, email, fax, phone, Skype, Zoom, text message, FaceBook... Are there more?? (Probably thousands more...) Twitch, newsletters, postal sharing, reading groups, covens... zines... secret societies...

How many different ways are there for sharing information?

Books, talking, physical gestures...

+++++++++++++

10:02 A.M. - Frank is working a bizarre... no... a bazaar... tomorrow, which means that Mariah and I are watching the kid. She (Felicity) has a tee-ball game in the A.M.

(Meanwhile, we are broke - economically speaking.) I wonder if there are any free things that we can do with the kid to help keep her entertained... ???

+++++++++++++

It takes forever to build up an audience / connections with a community... Two forevers, sometimes...

I sent a PDF of the Tezos White Paper to my Google Drive. [I failed at this. Couldn't find it on my cloud storage menu when I went looking for it.] Need to send a copy to my Kindle. [ x ]

[ _ ] Photos of the aether postal art!!!

Learn circuits. Learn C & C++... Learn what LINUX is and does... WHY??

[ _ ] Back up laptop [ _ ] Dump phone [By this I mean send all of the images and files on my phone to the laptop so that I can get them all backed up on my portable harddrive. SAFETY FIRST!!!]

10:22 A.M. - Felicity is watching nonsense... I'm slouched over fighting the urge to take a nap... (More coffee?)

Does Felicity think this is too scary? (She says "No.") Someday, Grandma will come home for lunch... [I'm referring to my wife, Mariah, here. She is Felicity's grandma, not mine. My grandma is Lucille, and she's in her 90s, but still alive!!!]

Zee zee Zum Zum. I don't ever know what's happening...

+++++++++++++

Grandma put Felicity's undies on backwards! CRAZY!!!

Are you ready?

NO! NO! NO!

Retirement is a strange concept. I can't really read this! [I was writing with a lime colored gel pen, and the ink was barely discernable on the white paper background.] HA !! Time out of mind. [That's an album by Bob Dylan, by the way.]

Sometimes, it's fun to just scribble - no plan, no expectations, just color and motion. I sure think scribbling is completely worthwhile. Freewriting is like scribbling with words.

"Are we going to build a computer, someday, Felicity?" I ask. (Thinking something like a Raspberry Pi.)

"I don't. I don't. I don't," she answers. (I guess that's a "No.")

I wonder how much an "electronics tool kit" would cost. ??? (I would check [ _ ], but my phone is on the charger.)

+++++++++++++

1:05 P.M. - Felicity is just laying around watching television. I ask her if she wants to do something, but she just ignores me. I REALLY need to come up with STUFF for us to do (instead of t.v.)

We had a lot of fun flying airplanes when it was nice outside. Tougher to keep her engaged when it's wet out.

The gel pen that I'm using is ALMOST out of ink. I should ORDER MORE [ _ ]. [The "gel pen" I'm referring to here is a dark blue color, not the lime green one I mentioned above. I only used the lime one for about two sentences, then switched because I couldn't read it... Not that it matters when freewriting, but if I hoped to be able to transcribe my notes, someday, or have someone else read them, they need to be legible.]

+++++++++++++

Things we'd want in a living space...

 ---comfort ---light ---sitting space ---sleeping space ---cooking space ---temperature/heat control ---book storage ---music playing equipment ---food storage + preservation ---clothes storage [---clothes washing equipment] ---bathroom/shower facilities ---food cooking equipment ---safety ---electricity ---internet (probably more...) [It always goes back to ULTIMATE VALUES... Maslow was an interesting read...]

+++++++++++++

1:32 P.M. - Felicity is laying on the floor now watching television with a BUCKET on her head. [Performance art?] (If I had my phone, I'd take a picture.)

Mariah wants to watch the new DUNE movie and THE LAST OF US t.v. show... Zee zee zum zum...

Karl [the cat] is laying on the back of my head. I put my hood up, so he'd quit wiping his nose on me. Needy bastard...

Need to read [ x ] the Bitcoin White Paper [finished reading it for the second time last night], [ _ ] the Tezos White Paper, then see what it would take to set up a blockchain node (maybe Tezos, maybe Hive, maybe ???)

TIME MARCHES ON!

Next weekend is Mother's Day (or is it "Mothers' Day?" Probably the plural...) Mariah wants to go out for dinner and see a movie next Friday to celebrate. I'm cool with that!

Sleep sleep sleep... Waaa waaa! Wooo wooo!!

1:55 P.M. - Who will be home first today? Alec? Frank? Mariah?? We shall see!!!

Suffer the Slings and Arrows... What was shattered and undone shall be whole, the two form one... Snizzle snazzle weasel wazzle... You and what army??

Last of the famous... [Snippet of a Morrissey song. He's an asshole, but I still like his music...] Will we REALLY go to Enchanted Forest [an amusement park just south of Salem, Oregon] this summer? I think it would be fun! (Only time will tell...)

What about the FEARLESS FREEP?? [I didn't remember where FREEP came from until I looked it up. It's from an old Looney Tunes cartoon called, "High Diving Hare."] Shall the citizens be saved?? Pookah! We'll be chasing smoke! 7 sheets to the wind...

2:55 P.M. - I keep asking Felicity if she needs to use the bathroom, and she keeps not hearing me. And I ask here, again and again, until she says "No."

I remember gigantic video stores where customers could rent all kinds of movies... [Huge, block long buildings full of B-movies, cult classics, and direct to video garbage. It was pretty spectacular. Good era to live through.] Those days are long gone... ALTHOUGH!!! I did see a video store in Seaside, Oregon, that looked like it was still in business the last time we were there... It's not the same, now, just cruising through streaming service menus. (Menues?)

+++++++++++++

The floor is lava. The floor is lava... Gross... Crash boom bang. May the FORCE be with you...

Dang religious nuts! Killer Cats from Outer Space. [Mash up of the movies THE CAT FROM OUTER SPACE and KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE.] Monkeys versus Donkeys... [Song by Wild Man Fischer.] Ping-ponging all around the universe. From nothing to nothing. Binaural Beats...

+++++++++++++

There once was a black hole from London. It liked to travel by llama, but the prices eventually became outrageous, so the black hole went on a killing spree and ate a bunch of prunes. It filed a restraining order against all pillows then pawned a stolen lobster and went underground with the profits, where it found Jesus, who was hiding in a tunnel playing Pokemon Yellow on an old Gameboy Advanced. They were married four days later - the black hole and the Gameboy - and everyone lived happily ever after...except for the lobster. The end...

+++++++++++++

Drinking water out of a purple filtered water jug. It's cold today. End of the world? (How would we know??)

3:19 P.M. - Potty training sucks. CRASH! BOOM! BANG!!!

Summer in the Pacific Northwest is weird. Even in August, it's totally possible to have 50 degree (f) days where it's pouring rain for a week straight... You get used to it, though...

+++++++++++++

[ _ ] Need to buy more postage when we get paid again...

Slamma Blamma...

The weekend starts here... [Song by Fatboy Slim.] or maybe there. We aren't sure.

She's going to the bathroom!! GOOD!!! (Have to remind her to wash her hands!)

+++++++++++++

What kind of weirdo would want to read this? Probably very few, but it's like Kenneth Goldsmith says, sometimes the MAKING of the project is FAR MORE interesting than the finished project! Or what about some of Andy Warhol's films, like SLEEP, which is something like six or eight hours of John Giorno [poet, musician, and literary editor] sleeping... Who would watch that?

What does it mean when a creative work is DEAD BORING??

Maybe I'm the wrong person to ask, but who would be the RIGHT person to ask? Snake oil salesmen are everywhere...

+++++++++++++

Spending time without my phone (it's been charging in a different room all day) might be helping my brain to wake back up (if it was ever truly awake...) Is electro-shock therapy that bad? I mean, if yo WANT IT?? (To quote Alien Sex Fiend, "I think I need some E.S.T.!")

Solar powered lights... LEDs? Post apocalypse lighting

4:02 P.M. Evil is sour candy...
