HOW TO HELP IN ADDICTIONS, ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE

avatar

As we all know, our lives are full of habits and addictions and certainly, as we have been saying, some habits have become addictions; some negative and others positive in which we have needed help to solve or get out of those that have damaged our lives

There are many addictions that surround people's lives such as: vices where exaggerated food, cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, drug use, antidepressant pill consumption, gambling among others are mentioned. In this sense, it is obvious that the person needs help to be able to solve such a situation before it is too late.

The bible is a unique and wise book and it gathers very valuable information in the formation of values and principles, it also helps us to promote and reinforce our weaknesses that we have as humans.

Many people who suffer from serious addictions have tried to manage them through themselves, others do not recognize that they need help and continue with the addiction persistently, because whoever does not recognize what they have can hardly be helped

In this order of ideas, we often see many people seek medical help for some addictions that have come to control their lives in a negative way and have certainly improved, but then they return to the same thing.
For example, we know that technology has come to facilitate our daily world in many aspects of life, but when we abuse it, it becomes an addiction and it really unbalances our emotional state.

However, I want to take advantage of this opportunity and this very important issue in our behavioral condition to express what the Bible contributes to the indicated circumstance.

All negative addictions are harmful to our emotional and physical state, therefore we must balance them before they harm us, since the Bible tells us the following about it:

1 Corinthians 6:12
“Everything is allowed to me”, but not everything is for my good. "Everything is allowed to me", but I will not let anything dominate me.
(RVR1960)

The author affirms in the text mentioned about the true Christian freedom that someone has to balance their emotions, since he categorically says that all things are lawful and we can practice them because we are the owners of the choice, but despite this we must take a good look since everything that is presented to us in life is not for the good because if we balance our attitudes with the help of God we could easily dominate the extreme, that which goes beyond our own strength

In another order of ideas, the Bible also tells us the following:

1 Corinthians 10:13
You have not suffered any temptation that is not common to mankind. But God is faithful, and he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear. Rather, when temptation comes, he will also give you a way out so that you can resist.
(RVR1960)

All habits and addictions are common in today's world but God is willing to help us when things get out of hand and we fall into exaggeration He is willing to reach out to us when we are desperate and can't find a way out of it. God is faithful and keeps his promises, there is nothing impossible that he cannot solve.

If you are one of those people who today are tied as if at a crossroads by some addictions and do not let you develop as a social being in a balanced way, come to God! and he will help you

I appreciate your ideas and thoughts on this issue of habits which is addictive especially when it is a negative one.

All negative addictions are harmful to our emotional and physical state, therefore we must balance them before they harm us

Sometimes some of this addictions is derived from depression and frustration that leads to do what is not appropriate and this is really harmful when fully into it. Though it depends on how habits are been generated but the ones gotten from such harmful state can cause more damages and needs to be resisted

This is really interesting and I quite agree with all you have said that there is nothing impossible for God to do, but I will also add that we must realize also that for God to help us in destroying every addictions, we must be willing to stop and that is only when we have recognized the bad habit and getting ready to stop too. At that moment, it will be possible for God to help us change. So, coming out of addiction is by choice. Thank you for sharing.
