¡La Fuerza del Trabajo! / The Force of Work!

El Trabajo tal y como fue definido en una entrega anterior; consiste en ideas cuyo objeto es hacer que la gente piense por sí misma. Ninguna de las ideas del Trabajo podrá apoderase de ninguno de nosotros a menos que cada uno de piense en ellas, trate de ver lo que significan en nuestras vidas, a ponerlas en práctica, a valorarlas; en fin pensar acerca de la vida y su sentido desde el punto de vista de tales ideas. Nadie podrá llegar a ser una persona diferente a menos que empiece a pensar de una nueva manera.

The Work as defined in a previous installment; it consists of ideas whose object is to make people think for themselves. None of the ideas of the Work will be able to take possession of any of us unless each one of us thinks about them, tries to see what they mean in our lives, to put them into practice, to value them; in short, think about life and its meaning from the point of view of such ideas. No one can become a different person unless he begins to think in a new way.

En el Cuarto Camino de Ouspensky cada uno de nosotros es ilustrado con la figura de un coche, un cochero, un pasajero y dos caballos. El coche representa nuestro cuerpo; el o los caballos hacen alusión a nuestras emociones; el cochero es nuestra mente y el pasajero es nuestro Yo Superior. El objetivo del trabajo es despertar al cochero (nuestra mente) que está dormida (actúa de manera mecánica o inconsciente). En la mayoría de las personas el cochero permanece dormido durante toda la vida a pesar de todo el sufrimiento, los disgustos y desastres que experimentamos en nuestras vidas; esta condición hace que el mundo de esa mayoría de personas sea un mundo de esclavitud a las sensaciones, los apetitos y la actividad muscular; en otras palabras una vida biológicamente básica.

In Ouspensky's Fourth Way each of us is illustrated with the figure of a coach, a coachman, a passenger and one or two horses. The car represents our body; the two horses allude to our emotions; the coachman is our mind and the passenger is our Higher Self. The objective of the work is to wake up the coachman (our mind) that is asleep (acts mechanically or unconsciously). In most people the coachman remains asleep throughout their life, despite all the suffering, upsets and disasters they experience in their lives; this condition makes the world of that majority of people a world of slavery to sensations, appetites and muscular activity; in other words a biologically basic life.

Debido a que el Cuarto Camino está en la vida; yo debo seguir y aplicar las reglas del Trabajo en todos los aspectos de mi vida, manteniéndolo vivo en mí con mi voluntad y comprensión aunque cambien las condiciones externas. En tales circunstancias yo debo tratar siempre de conservar el equilibrio y aceptar las nuevas condiciones externas como parte de mi Trabajo. Donde quiera que yo vaya el trabajo siempre irá conmigo. Solo si estoy deseoso de recibirlo tocará mi corazón y mi mente y comenzara lentamente a transformarme.

Because the Fourth Way is, it develops in life; I must follow and apply the rules of the Work in all aspects of my life, keeping it alive in me with my will and understanding even when external conditions change. In such circumstances I must always try to keep my balance and accept the new external conditions as part of my Work. Wherever I go, the work will always go with me. Only if I am willing to receive it will it touch my heart and mind and slowly begin to transform me.

El Trabajo siempre me protegerá, lo cual no significa que no enfrentaré situaciones desagradables en mi vida, sino que seré capaz de enfrentarme con todos los eventos y situaciones de la vida de manera razonable. Es una cuerda que siempre está colocada a centímetros de mi cabeza y que solo tengo que dar un pequeño salto para asirme a ella y evitar que me caiga en las emociones negativas que abundan por todas partes. Recuerde siempre que las condiciones siempre están cambiando y que por más que una persona me guste personalmente, no puedo hacer nada si el cambio de las circunstancias exteriores lo hace negativo para el Trabajo, quizás es el momento de alejarse de esa persona por más que nos guste, ya que no podemos hacer nada por ellos, debido a que el Trabajo al igual que “todas las cosas que ocurren en mi vida son una relación personal entre Dios y mi alma”. Nunca lo olvide, es entre usted y Dios. Por lo tanto, podemos hacer nada por nadie, sólo esa persona puede ayudarse, pero tiene que desearlo, solo así podrá recibir ayuda.

The Work will always protect me, which does not mean that I will not face unpleasant situations in my life, but that I will be able to deal with all life events and situations in a reasonable way. It is a rope that is always placed inches from my head and that I only have to take a small jump to grab onto it and avoid falling into the negative emotions that abound everywhere. Always remember that conditions are always changing and that no matter how much I like a person personally, I cannot do anything if the change in external circumstances makes it negative for the Work, perhaps it is time to get away from that person, no matter how much love we feel for them, since we cannot do anything for them. Keep in mind that the Work as well as “everything that happens to us in life is a personal relationship between God and my soul”. Never forget it. This means that nobody can do anything for somebody, only that person can do something for herself or himself, but that person must desire it; that is the only way that she or he will receive the necessary help.
