Birds And Fruit: Frozen Apples

My entry for @nelinoeva’s contest # 32. Check 👉 Here for more information.

Theme this week

Birds And Fruit

I have often mentioned the many Blue Jays that frequent my backyard and I had to look deep into my picture folder to find one with fruit nearby. Usually they are on the ground eating seeds, peanuts and any leftovers from dinner.

This one looks like a juvenile Blue Jay as the crown on his head hasn’t developed yet. His feathers haven’t turned the bright blue of older Blue Jays. The apple is to the right of the bird.

The Blue Jay sits among the frozen fruit on the apple tree. Yes, those mysterious round brown looking fruit are apple that stayed on the tree during winter. Not tasty for human consumption but some birds may eat them.

Another Blue Jay in the apple tree with the apples that froze over winter when the temperatures here goes below freezing .

This photo is the one for the contest.

A much prettier scene is not when apples remain on the trees all winter but when the blossoms first appear on the fruit trees.

A Cedar Waxwing among the apple blossoms.

Totally different level of refrigerated fruit for winter, birds will eat when food is scarce.

Lovely photo, also nice to see unusual frozen apples on the trees which we would not see here Jo.

Thanks Joan and also for the generous tip.🌸

Mother Nature has her own way to keep fruit frozen for the birds. :) True you don’t see the cold season we experience here. The winter season doesn’t seem to bother the birds that stick around while others migrate South to avoid the cold weather.

Mother nature looks after everything, those that cannot cope move. Life is learning about the unusual things that happen... life frozen fruit on tap for birds that do stay 🙂

Lovely images! How wonderful is life that the fruit we cannot eat, becomes food for our feathered friends! Awesome captures, and what stunning birds!

This is so unusul to see frozen apples on the tree, but they are great backround.
Wonderful shots, Jo.

Thanks Neli @nelinoeva. Yes you have to have a cold Canadian winter to see apples frozen on the trees.

A lovely post and a wonderful photo for the contest! Apples must be easier to eat when they are soft and mushy after being frozen! More like chunky applesauce!

Thank you Melinda @melinda010100. 🌸 The apples would be easier to bite into after being frozen and then thawed. :)

Awesome post and photos Jo!! I just love seeing your Blue Jays and the Cedar Waxwings are a joy to see also! I've only ever seen one Cedar Waxwing in person and I felt so thankful to have seen such a beautiful bird!! 💕

Well I haven't seen an apple tree in my life except in photos. Nor have I seen any of those birds you showed. Yet the Bluejay with the frozen red apples just simply blew me away. Stunning. I just love it! What a great post and thanks for sharing. Now I've seen what frozen apples are even if only in pictures 🥰

Hi Jo,
I have missed this post and the beautiful blue color of the Blue Jay - it matches nicely with the orange or brown apples.
Some apples don't fall from our apple trees neither and stay there during the cold months, but I have never thought about who would eat these ☺️

Hi Hannes,

I’m glad you like the blue of the jay and the complimentary color of the frozen apples. Not much goes to waste from Mother Nature.

I hope you are having a great week off work, dear Hannes and the weather is allowing you time on the HD.🏍️☀️

Thanks for your kind support and generosity. 🤗 Much appreciated.

Hi Jo,

yep, Mother Nature doesn't waste anything, all she does makes sense - she's so different from us humans. I don't know myself if I mean that as a joke or serious ;)

Oh yes, the weather is great and I'm sitting every morning on the HD to ride somewhere to take a walk or a hike and photos 😁

I hope you're also having a good time and best weather, dear Jo 🤗🌞

I think you are serious as we humans leave waste everyday on this planet. The most upsetting to me are the chemicals and fishing gear left in the water that are killing and entangling the sea creatures. And then we have the advertisements encouraging us to buy more throw away items.

According to some reports, it looks like we are getting ready to leave for Mars if we completely destroyed this planet in the future.:))

We have a great recycling program here on the Island but motorists will still drive by and throw coffee cups and other fast food wrappers out the window for someone else to pick up.

That’s enough of my rant today, dear Hannes. :)

We are in a bit of a heat wave the last few days and today looks like another scorcher. I just have to think of cold winter days and not complain.☀️

Good to hear you are having wonderful weather and enjoying getting out on the HD. I’m going to check your page now for any new posts of your adventures.🤗

Hi Jo,

I can only agree to all - mostly I hate the people who go into the nature because they say they love it there and it's so beautiful and then they leave the wrappings of their food or bottles and beverage cans right there in nature... this has become much more since the pandemic began because much more people have found their love for nature. And that's enough of my rant, dear Jo 😉

It's very warm here too, but not as warm as it was a few weeks ago, and there are thunderstorms every now and then which cool the air down.

I don't have made new posts yet - I'm still working on the photos. Maybe I'll post something tomorrow if I get home early enough from wherever I will go - I'll decide just when I get up in the morning ;)

I hope it doesn't get too hot on the island and you're having a great weekend, dear Jo 🤗🌞

I am grateful Jo that you let me know where the green apple was in the photo otherwise I think I would have been looking for a while.😂
Love your very pretty Blue Jays, your entry photo is definitely the best.

I’m glad you found the green apple Angie. I have about 15 Blue Jays that live close by in the forest but didn’t have many photos of them in the apple trees.

Have a wonderful weekend my friend.💞
